Duncan Creek Elementary
September 2018
Dear Duncan Creek Parents,
Our enrollment after Labor Day was 1,368 students. Our enrollment projection for the 2018-2019 school year was 1,336 students. We are excited be able to add to our current staff. We have added an additional intervention teacher to serve students in grades K-5. We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Vickie Cochran to our faculty. She is an experienced teacher who comes to us from Jackson Elementary. She will be a wonderful asset to our students and school.
The Teacher of the Year selected to represent Duncan Creek Elementary is Mrs. Jamie Cofer. Mrs. Cofer is one of our fantastic kindergarten teachers. She will now participate in the selection process for Teacher of the Year for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Congratulations to Mrs. Cofer for what she does each and every day for our students. She is a great colleague and teacher leader. I’m sure you will join me in wishing her the best of luck as she goes on in the selection process.
We are excited to continue the Principal’s 200 Club this year and have added a ticket incentive program. This positive recognition program rewards students who are showing safe, respectful, and/or responsible behavior at school. Students “caught soaring with excellence” receive a ticket. Each month there is a school-wide cash-in day. Students can save up for bigger rewards or cash-in each month. Students can also earn classroom rewards such as slipper day or sit in the teacher’s chair for a day. School-wide prizes include lunch with the principal, an icee with our school resource officer, etc
Student safety continues to be a priority at Duncan Creek. As a reminder, there is no student drop off in front of the school. No cars should be in the bus lane. All students arriving in cars between 8:20 and 8:45 should use the car rider line. No students should be walking in the front entrance unless arriving by bus. If you would like to walk your child to the doors of the school, please park in the car rider parking lot and walk your child to the car rider door entrance. Our car rider line closes at 8:45am because our staff has to be in classrooms. If you arrive after 8:45am, please drive to the front of the school, park and walk your student into the building. Students are expected to be in their classrooms by 8:50am. I appreciate your support in keeping our students safe.
Thank you for all that you do to support Duncan Creek Elementary, your child(ren), and our teachers and staff.
Sincerely,
Carrie Yougel
Principal
