GMS Principal's Corner

December 19, 2021

Dear Galvin Families,

We want to take a moment to thank our Student Leaders for planning Spirit Weeks for the end of December. As we head into the winter break, it has been refreshing to see such high levels of participation and school spirit here at the Galvin. This past Tuesday our school-wide theme was "Black Out Bullying." This was a day in support of our anti-bullying campaign.

We continue Spirit Week next week with a variety of school spirit themes. A complete list for this upcoming week is in this newsletter. It has been a positive experience for students to return to a normal routine and back to familiar school spirit activities.

With next week being a short school week, this will be the final GMS weekly update for 2021!

We wish all families a safe and restful winter break.

Thank you,

GMS Administration

7th & 8th Grade Winter Concert

On December 15th, the GMS 7th and 8th Grade Band, Orchestra and Chorus presented their annual Winter Concert. It was their first indoor concert in two years. All performers did exceptionally well. The concert featured music from Harry Potter, The Polar Express, Michael Jackson, Phillip Philips and many others. The 6th Grade will be having their Winter Concert on January 18th at 7pm at Canton High School.

Student Demographic Verification

On Wednesday, December 8th an email was sent to all GMS families containing a link to your child’s demographic information. A second email was sent on Wednesday, December 15th to those families that we are still awaiting a response from. It is very important that we have accurate student information on file. This includes student and parent/guardian contact information, as well as emergency and medical information. Please take a few moments to read this email, review the data and make any updates. If after reviewing the information you find that no changes have been made, please SUBMIT the form regardless. This will alert us that your child’s information is accurate.

If you did not receive this email, please first check your junk/spam folder. In the event that an email was not received, please contact the GMS main office at 781-821-5070 so that we may update your email address and resend you the form.

Thank you.

We previously shared with families an electronic copy of the GMS Student and Family Handbook with the District Appendix. This Handbook is also posted on our school website. The link to this handbook can be found here: Approved GMS Handbook with Appendix.

It is the responsibility of each family to review the Handbook together and to fill out the 2021-22 Canton Public Schools Student/Family Handbook and Permissions Signature Page. The link to the Google Form can be found here. Please ☑ each section and electronically sign this form as receipt and agreement as stated below. We ask that you complete this form for each child you have at the Galvin.

We appreciate your attention to this matter.

Chromebooks: Important Reminder

It is our students' responsibility to bring their charged Chromebook to school with them each day. We have a very limited number of loaners available and are using those to first support students who's Chromebooks aren't working. The Chromebook is an essential, daily, school supply. Please help your child come up with a process that allows them to have their device ready for school each day. Thank you.

Substitute Teachers

Do you have a college-age child coming home for winter break? If so, would they be interested in subbing for the Canton Public Schools while they are here? Subbing is a great way to keep busy, make money and get real-world work experience. In Canton, we have had great success bringing our own, former students back to help support our students and schools during this busy time year. If your child is interested, please have them fill out this sub application packet and email it to Kim Eardley ( to get the process started. If they fill it out before they get home, the process can begin asap!

Students in their first year of college are able to sub at the elementary and preschool levels only.

Students in their second year or beyond can sub at all school levels.

Grade 7 Snack

With our lunch rotation change, 7th grade lunch now begins at 12:25 and ends at 12:51. With this later time, 7th grade students can have a working, peanut free snack for five minutes during 3rd period.

December 2021 Canton Public Schools Survey

Dear Canton Families,

Good afternoon. We have received nearly 600 responses from the Family Survey that we sent out last week. That number and the feedback associated with each entry have been outstanding and incredibly valuable.

We would love to hear from an even larger number of you! Our goal is to achieve at least 1,000 responses from our school community.

As such, I am extending the deadline to complete the survey until Monday, December 20 at 4 p.m. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your child's experience in the Canton Public Schools.

Here is the link for the survey:
