Principal's Message for the week:

This past Sunday, 60 minutes aired a segment on Ryan Speedo Green. Ryan is from Norfolk, Virginia and was headed in the wrong direction until two educators (his 4th grade teacher and his social worker) gave him hope. Even though this segment ran on Sunday, it has stayed on my mind throughout this week on many different occasions. Education is a hard field that is not getting any easier. Our students are coming to us with more and more varied needs and our families have more and more on their plate. This makes our job much more difficult at times, but it also makes our job so crucial and vital at others. Even though students like, Ryan, might not say it in the moment they are beyond grateful for your words, your actions, your compassion, and your love that you give to them on a daily basis. Patti and I want to thank all of our staff for making a difference in our students' lives. We see it everyday and we know our students feel it everyday. Enjoy this weekend, take some self care time, and some family time because our students need you at your best. :)

Colts Pride in Action

As part of our purposeful work to design a school culture where our PRIDE is encouraged and celebrated, each week a staff member or group of staff members will be highlighted for demonstrating one aspect of P.R.I.D.E

All first-time Coders! Participating in "Hour of Code" can seem like a daunting task, but BRAVO to YOU for trying it out with your students! Coding has many benefits, one of which is helping students sharpen their executive functioning skills (e.g. sequencing, organizing, if-then, etc.). Thank you to Mr. Doss for all of the support to get make coding approachable to all of our classrooms!

PBIS tip of the week

Make time to "play". Holiday time can make students a little more giddy or silly. Let's channel that "silliness" and bring some purposeful #joy into our classroom group activities this week !

Don't forget about trying out our Colt Tracker!

This link will, also, be in our handbook along with our flowchart!

Schedule for upcoming weeks

Winter Celebrations

Grade levels should plan to host their classroom winter celebrations on Thursday unless you have already communicated with admin. Celebrations are limited to an hour. Feel free to invite parents. If you are asking parents to send in edible items, please ask for the ingredients. Classroom teachers are responsible for checking ingredients for allergies for food brought in for the classroom celebrations. Note that it is a winter celebration rather than a Christmas party as we must be mindful of students whose families do not celebrate Christmas or any other holiday during this season.

Holiday Spirit Week

To celebrate the upcoming holiday season, we will be having an "Elf" themed Holiday Spirit Week Dec. 17th - Dec. 21st. We don't want to ruin all of the surprises and fun but check out the schedule below if you would like to participate.
