Graduation Credits and Guidelines
THE FACTS- We are Prepared!
Sargent's graduation guideline and credit requirement policy has been in place since the 2017-2018 school year. You can view this policy (IKF-2) online under our Board Policies. A letter went home with Juniors this December indicating the status for both guidelines and credits (a second copy went out in January for students who had not returned it signed). Most students have already met the graduation guideline requirement for English by earning a "c" average or higher in English 9 and 10. Several students have already met the math guideline by earning a "c" average or higher in Geometry and Algebra II. Those students currently taking Algebra II will need to wait until the end of the semester to see what grade is earned. An updated status will be given in May/June for these students. Any Junior who has NOT met the graduation guidelines will meet with Mrs. Naranjo and their guardians to develop a plan to successfully meet these requirements in May/June after semester grades have posted. If you have questions please reach out.

CAUTION! Is Your Child Taking Concurrent Classes?
Taking college classes in high school is SMART! We have some past Sargent graduates finishing college in three years. The financial savings are substantial.
However parents and students need to be well informed about COF. Students taking college classes while in high school are required to use their COF stipend (94.00 per credit hour) to cover the cost of the class. The college collects and keeps these funds which is why college classes are offered for a very minimal cost to families. However, please note that each student is only given 145 hours of COF stipend hours. Students who change majors or remain in college for more than four years may run out of their COF stipend.
Below is more information on COF or click here to go to the state website.
What is The College Opportunity Fund (COF)?
The College Opportunity Fund (COF), created by the Colorado Legislature, provides a stipend to eligible undergraduate students. The stipend pays a portion of your total in-state tuition when you attend a participating college.
Eligible undergraduate students must apply, be admitted and enroll in classes at a participating college to receive this benefit. Both new and continuing students are eligible for the stipend.
Qualifying students may use the stipend for eligible undergraduate classes. The stipend is paid on a per credit hour basis directly to the college at which the student is enrolled. The credit-hour amount is set annually by the General Assembly.

HEAR Requirements
Students planning to attend a four-year college or university in Colorado should complete the classes listed here during their high school career in order to fulfill the Higher Education Admission Recommendations (HEAR). HEAR is one factor of many that public four-year institutions consider in the admission decision process.
Meeting HEAR does not guarantee admission to a four-year public institution. Additionally, colleges, universities and certain academic programs may have additional admission factors.
