A Note from Mrs. Nichols
Dear Weaverville Elementary Families:
We had such an EXCELLENT time with you on Leadership Day! Our students did a great job presenting their learning, and we had a fun time picnic-ing on the playground afterwards. Thank you for supporting our students in this way.
We have a really busy few weeks coming up, and I hope you'll take a minute to read through everything in this newsletter. Things to note: Book Fair, Spring Fling, and Staff Appreciation next week.
Here are some important things to note for the coming weeks:
- Please consider volunteering at our Field Day this year! Field Day is Thursday, May 11th. It's a little earlier than normal, and we still need quite a few spots filled. We'd love to have you here on this very fun day! Complete this form if you'd like to volunteer for Field Day.
- Scholastic Book Fair is this week! We are keeping it open until 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening so that parents who work can stop by with their children to purchase books if they'd like.
- Did you love Mr. Martin's video "The Farthest Bar" as much as we did? Here's a link so you can watch it again. This video was shown at Leadership Day. Thank you for sharing your creativity with students and families, Mr. Martin!
- Staff Appreciation is next week, May 1st - 5th. Take a look at the flyer for Staff Appreciation Week. As a principal, I know that the appreciation we show to teachers and staff goes a long way in keeping amazing staff in our schools year after year. Thank you for all the ways you show appreciation for the hard work they do every day.
- Our students have earned another school-wide reward! They earned 325 Hawk High Fives before March 31st, and our school purchased a sno-cone machine with PTO funds dedicated to student incentives. We'll be serving sno-cones during recess in the coming weeks. Way to go, Blackhawk Leaders!
- BCS Mall Art Show - April 24 - May 7 - Here's a list of students who have work showing in the Mall Art Show! Take time to stop by and see the amazing work from Buncombe County Schools students.
- Title 1 Parent Engagement Survey: Weaverville Elementary School is a Title I School, and as the parent/guardian of a child attending a Title I School you are an important part of the Title I Team. Your input is vital in the planning and implementation of the parental involvement program and activities in our school. The following survey will be used to assist us with future planning for parental involvement activities and events at Weaverville Elementary School.
Thanks for all you do to support your child's success at school each day!

Spring Fling: Volunteers & Donations Needed!
Greeting Weaverville Families from your PTO!
Spring Fling is quickly approaching and we are very excited for this year's event! The event is growing this year to include more food, games and there is even a dunk tank where you can try to dunk your favorite staff or PTO member!! We have sent home more information about Spring Fling with your students' folders and attached them here for your convenience. In your students folder you should have also received pre-sale raffle tickets to enter for a chance to win a fabulous raffle basket or our Grand Prize - an iPad Mini (latest model) provided by Sunshine Employment Services!! Raffle ticket pre-sales can be returned to school by Thursday April 26th. Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the Spring Fling!!
We are asking for some additional support from our school families as well. First, for the event we will need volunteers to help supervisor games and activities. Here is the sign-up genius link for ways you can volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090E4AA9A82DA5FE3-spring. Second, we are still in need of items for all our categories of raffle baskets. Please see the list that came home and is attached for your convenience. Our raffle items are in categories by grade level, however if you are able to provide items from a category outside your grade level that is awesome too! Finally, if you have signed up to bring a cake or baked goods for the Cake Walk please bring those to your school's office the morning of April 28th. If you haven't signed up to bring in a baked yet but would like to, we appreciate any donations. Our Cake Walk was hugely popular last year and having additional baked goods would be great!
Thank you for all your support past, present and future!
Sincerely,
Your Weaverville PTO

Do You Want to be a Mentor?
Ongoing Reminders
- Free/Reduced Lunch Application: www.lunchapplication.com
- Please do not check your child out between 1:55-2:55 so that we can have a safe and calm dismissal for students each day.
- Please always let us know in writing if there is a transportation change for your child.
- Please let us know by 1:00 pm if you are changing your child's regular dismissal procedure.
Masks Available!
Don't forget that our students, staff, and visitors have access to masks all day long. We have regular 3-ply masks and KN95 masks available. Masks are available in the front office, and we have reminders at hand-sanitizing stations that you can get a mask in the front office.
If a student requests a KN95 mask, we must have parent permission since it is considered a respirator. Parents must complete the Voluntary Respirator Use Form and sign and return. Here is a link to the form. If a student requests a KN95 mask, and we do not already have the form on file, we will email it to parent/guardians for you to sign.

COVID Updated Protocols
If a student tests positive for COVID (at home or at a healthcare provider), they would isolate for 5 days from when their symptoms began. We will recognize the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS regarding the use of a face covering to be worn for days 6-10 upon return to school.
Our normal exclusionary symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting are in effect. If a student has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they must remain at home until symptoms are resolved for 24 hours.
Hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning protocols, and improved ventilation are all still priorities and important mitigating strategies.
Face coverings remain optional, to be worn by anyone at anytime.
Physical distancing such as 3 ft or 6 ft apart is no longer required.
Contact tracing is not required.
Following the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS, MAHEC will not be providing rapid antigen testing in our schools. Staff and families may order at home tests for free via this link: https://www.covid.gov/tests.
MAHEC will send home further guidance regarding when students need to stay home due to an illness.
For students where an absence is Covid related please indicate this in your parent or health provider's note.
Students/teachers will follow the same guidelines for makeup work as they would for any other illness or injury.
