Principal Message
Phew, the first quarter is over and you did it! All of those BOY assessments, parent conferences and report card comments are done! You should feel proud of your accomplishments. However, for us to continue to THRIVE, it is vital that we slow down and ensure we are bringing our best selves to school each and everyday. #ourkidsdeserveit Some might think that taking time for yourself is selfish, but instead think about it being rather essential. As educators we are the most selfless people and often put ourselves last. Therefore, over the holiday weekend - take some time to have a WARM cup of coffee, have a quiet moment and write goals around self care. Consider how are you putting self care at the top of your priority list?
John and Rachel George, educators in the Gresham Barlow School District, suggest the following:
- Start Small - start changing habits one at a time and pick one area that you can really develop
- Master your Morning - you may need to rethink your morning routine in order to start your day off right
- Get Moving - exercise does wonders for your stress level and your overall heath
- Set Limits - take the time to set firm boundaries in order to prevent burnout
- Take Time to Process - find your someone that you can process things with
- Make Sleep a Priority - a good night of sleep goes a long way
- Nutrition - make sure you keep healthy snacks on hand rather than turning to junk food
- Schedule It - schedule time for yourself and don't feel bad about it
