So you think you can Google?
Website Evaluation - Google vs. Digital Resources
Need information - Where to look and when....
When shopping for information:
- Quick search and basic information - Google.
- Books first - if currency is not an issue. Publishing takes time, but there is an editorial staff that checks for accuracy.
- Journals, magazines, newspaper articles for "fresher" information. They also have an editorial staff or may be peer reviewed.
- YOUR LIBRARY - Full time staff member to help with questions.
- Digital Resources - in YOUR LIBRARY - access anywhere.
What next?
Websites - places to look when you can't find it anywhere else; however, ANYONE can publish to the internet. There is no website "police". You are responsible for checking your own content.
Examples of websites: Good and Bad...

Let's evaluate a few websites!
Next Steps? Citation of course!
Citing open internet sources (free to anyone) is very challenging as well. You can use free tools like Easybib.com but you will still have to hunt and add information that is missing. Try one for yourself. Did this tool give you a complete citation or did you have to help it find important details?
