ETHS Exceeds Expectations on State Report Card
Every year the state of Wisconsin releases a report card on each school and district in Wisconsin. The 2018-2019 East Troy High Schools Report Card has much to celebrate. We also recognize that we are much more than a number.
This years report card for East Troy High School had many areas of growth. Our overall school score increased from 73.7 to 79.7 and we continue to be in the Exceeds Expectations band. This score includes weighting in four different areas: Student Achievement, School Growth, Closing Gaps, and On track and Postsecondary Readiness. One of the big differences this year is that this is the first year in which high schools can have growth incorporated into their score. This was also the first year in which the ASPIRE assessment which is taken by 9th and 10th graders was included along with the ACT that all juniors take.
In the area of Student Achievement as measured by the ACT, ASPIRE, and DLM assessments we improved in both English Language Arts and Mathematics and continue to be above the state average.
School Growth was the new category for high schools and we earned 85 out of a possible 100 points. This measure comes from how cohorts of students grow from year to year. Our score was far above the state average.
In the area of Closing Gaps we had significant improvement with an increase of 11 points. The score now includes 9th and 10th graders which increased our cell group numbers. Our school’s score was also far above the state average.
Our graduation rate did slip from 98.3% to 96.9%. The state average is 90.8%.
While we have much to celebrate we will continue to improve. Currently we have moved to a Trimester schedule with longer classes and our educators have a school wide goal of increasing the amount of collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and purposeful movement in their classes.
We are proud of the growth and hard work shown by both the students and staff at East Troy High School and look forward to continuing to make our school a special place to learn.

As always, we are dedicated to the success of each and every child at ETHS. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,

General Management Certification and College Credit
East Troy students can earn a General Management Certificate, which is equivalent to 13 credits at Gateway. All required coursework for the certificate is offered at ETHS!
Required courses for this certificate include Accounting Principles, Introduction to Business, Business Law and Microsoft Office Applications. The Gateway credits that are earned as part of the course requirements also transfer to any technical college in Wisconsin, along with some four-year universities.
In addition, the ETHS Accounting Principles course is accepted by UW-Whitewater!
A Head Start on a College Degree
High school students at East Troy have a fantastic opportunity: FREE COLLEGE CREDIT! Through a partnership with Gateway Technical College, students can take free college-level transcripted classes in several departments including Ag, Business, Tech Ed, Computer Science, Family and Consumer Science, Math, Science and English. Students simultaneously earn both college credit AND credit toward their high school diploma. Best of all, the program covers the cost of the student's tuition and books.
Taking it a step further, East Troy students are now able to earn a General Management Certificate, which is equivalent to 13 credits at Gateway. This certificate focuses on the local business need for a skill set that will assist with the management of the organization in an entry-level position. After completion of the courses in this certificate, the student will be able to understand the overall management and structure of the organization, generally accepted accounting and business practices, as well as demonstrate the technical computer skills needed to assist with the management of the organization in an entry-level position.
Required courses for this certificate include Accounting Principles, Introduction to Business, Business Law and Microsoft Office Applications. By earning this certificate while in high school, students can shorten the credits needed for an associate degree. These credits also transfer to any technical college in Wisconsin, along with some four-year universities.
For more information about the General Management Certificate or transcripted courses, please contact Deb Leising, CTE Coordinator, at leideb@easttroy.k12.wi.us.

Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl
East Troy High School students got a chance to apply their personal finance knowledge when they attended the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl, sponsored by Asset Builders. Two team comprised of eight seniors, Josh Asby, Hunter Cliffgard, Alison Giblin, Sophie Donegan, Lexi Rudderham, Brielle Bird, Brady Barels, and Kyle Lehman traveled to Carthage College on December 12th, where they matched wits in a battle against area schools to see who knew the most about business, economics and personal finance. The Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl® (FICB) is a financial literacy program for high school students, teaching a wide range of financial literacy topics that align with Wisconsin’s Model Academic Standards for Personal Finance as well as the Jumpstart National Standards. The FICB culminates in a live, college-bowl tournament where teams compete to determine regional champions. Teams that finish 1st- and 2nd-Place from each region earn the right to advance to the state championship tournament. “My students always really enjoy this competition. They are always surprised with how much they have learned and how well they do against other schools,” added Deb Leising, Business Education instructor.
