South Lebanon Elementary
February 2024
Notes and News from the Principal
Greetings South Lebanon Families,
We have some very exciting things happening at South Lebanon during the month of February. From Valentine's Day to the 100th day of school, February has it all! In celebration of the annual Kid's Heart Challenge, we welcomed Chad Ryland, kicker for the New England Patriots! As a Cedar Crest graduate, Chad's message of perseverance and hard work was an excellent example for our students. We also honored our school board members with a special gift of thanks for their dedication to our students. Below you will see a picture of the students that presented books that were donated to the South Lebanon library in honor of our school board.
As we look ahead, keep an eye out for information about the South Lebanon PTP Family Formal as well as our annual Book Bingo event. These events are always fun and exciting for students and their families. As always, thank you all for your support and dedication to the students at South Lebanon Elementary.
Sincerely,
Mr. Brown

Mark your calendar! The American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge will be on Friday, February 16th, 2024 during the school day. To get started, register at http://www2.heart.org/goto/SLKHC or download the free “AHA Schools” app.
Your child will earn a wristband just for registering online as well as have their name entered to win some other prizes just for signing up! (Harrisburg Senators Tickets, Reading Fightin’ Phils Tickets…etc).
There are various other prizes (from the American Heart Association), that students can earn based on how much they raise. Our ultimate goal however as a school is to have EVERY STUDENT REGISTERED ONLINE (this involves no donation at all).
All money will be due by Thursday February 22nd, 2024.

March is Youth Art Month (Getting ready in February!)
South Lebanon Spring Art Show
March is Youth Art Month! We are preparing now.
I entered four artworks in the Youth Art Month Flag Design Competition. This year the theme is “Dream in Art”. Students in grades K-12 can enter the competition. An overall winner will be selected and their artwork will be made into a flag representing Pennsylvania at the National Art Educator’s Conference. There are also winners for elementary, middle, and high school. We are still waiting to hear who the winners are. The following 5th graders artwork is pictured below:
I have also chosen 5 student artworks for the YAM virtual art show, featuring artwork from K-12 students from all over Pennsylvania. It is always hard for me to choose from the many outstanding works of art created by South Lebanon Students. Congratulations to my selections for this year Addison Sechrist, Gr. 5, Bodin Farr, Gr. 4, Ethan Zimmerman, Gr. 5, Vivian Chen, Gr. 3, and Camille Speraw , Gr. 3. Those students artwork is pictured below:
Even more artwork will be on display in the community soon.
I will be choosing a selection of artwork from each grade to be featured in our district wide art show at the Lebanon Valley Council on The Arts on the first Friday of March. More information to come!

PTP Scholarship
The South Lebanon Parent Teacher Partnership is pleased to announce that we are sponsoring scholarships for Cedar Crest students who will be enrolling in any institution of higher learning. This scholarship is for any student who attended South Lebanon Elementary for at least their 3rd, 4th and 5th grade years at South Lebanon Elementary.
As a parent organization, we are an outreach of South Lebanon Elementary and we are actively involved with our school’s ideals. Many of our students have espoused these ideals while attending South Lebanon and we desire to honor those students who are pursing educational programs and associated fields beyond high school education. These scholarships are for all CCHS students who attended South Lebanon for their last 3 years of elementary schooling. Grade point average will not be the sole determining factor in scholarship selection. We encourage you to have your seniors who attended South Lebanon apply for these scholarship awards.
Please follow the criteria outlined in the attached information and application. An electronic copy can be found on the under the South Lebanon tab of the Cornwall Lebanon School District website or in the CCHS Counseling Office. https://sites.google.com/view/southlebanonptp/home?pli=1
We plan to again offer (2) - $1,000 scholarships and have named one of the scholarships as the, “Stacey Seldomridge Pennington PTP Memorial Scholarship.”
Scholarship applications are due no later than March 1, 2024. Any questions can be directed to Blythe Heisey, bheisey@clsd.k12.pa.us
