A Message from our Superintendent of Schools
Dear Friends,
This school year has seemed to fly by, and a look at the calendar reminds me Spring Break is soon upon us. I am truly overcome by the realization of the often-repeated idiom, “Time flies when you’re having fun!” This year has been filled with its share of great times as well as occasional challenges, and I remain very excited about what the future holds for the BEST school district in the world.
I am certain many of you have exciting plans for the Spring Break holiday. To those of you who will be traveling, please remember you are needed here at home; have fun, relax, and best wishes for safe travels to and from your destinations. To those of you who have plans to remain at home for your time off, please make it a priority to exercise self-care and take time to unwind.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your positive representation of the District both at work and in your home community. However you choose to spend your time, please be mindful you represent the profession that makes all other professions possible, and you are held to the highest standards of public behavior.
Best wishes to each of you for a beautiful and refreshing Spring Break.
Many thanks,
2020 CENSUS INFORMATION
The Census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.
The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.
Save the Date: April 1, 2020, is National Census Day. We are asking students and staff to wear yellow attire or accessories with jeans in recognition of National Census Day.

CHARACTER EDUCATION THEME FOR MARCH: RESPECT & GRATITUDE
Respect and gratitude are two closely related concepts; they are both ways to honor others whom we admire.
Here are five ways we can show respect and gratitude to others:
1. Listen. If you want a person to know you respect him or her, then tune into what that person is saying. Look them in the eye, put down your cell phone, and offer feedback when necessary. Everyone appreciates the person who willing listens to them and shows genuine interest in what they have to say.
2. Encourage. We've all had moments when we need someone to tell us, "Don't worry, things will work out." Although a small gesture, others will remember that you took the time and interest in their feelings and well-being. A smile and uplifting word can truly brighten someone's day.
3. Congratulate. If someone does a great job, let them know about it. Congratulate others for a job well done. Be willing to express praise and gratitude when it's deserved.
4. Be helpful. Be willing to help others. Offering some advice or giving your time and sharing your talents mean a lot. These are good ways to demonstrate both your respect and gratitude.
5. Say "Thank You." This simple act is one we sometimes forget. Make sure people know you appreciate them and their actions. A sincere "Thank You" goes a long way!

TECHNOLOGY TIP for MARCH: REMOVE IMAGE BACKGROUND
Special thanks to Karen Tiffin for sharing our monthly Technology Tips!
Do you need to remove the background on your latest selfie? Remove.bg does the trick! Photo Scissors is another site that also removes the background from photos. Just upload a photo to either site, and watch the magic happen!
Turn Off The Lights - This Google extension is used to highlight the video player and darken the rest of the web page when showing videos. Check out the tutorial for this great tool here.
Soundzabound Music
GPISD has added 2 new volumes, v10 & Epic Moments, to the music library through Soundzabound.
Perfect for podcasts, classroom music/sounds, PowerPoint™, videos, news, shows, video yearbooks, digital storytelling, presentations, TV broadcasts, web design and more! Our students & staff members needing music should pull from these volumes to protect our system against copyright infringements. Soundzabound is included in ClassLink and the generic login information for everyone is:
- username = galenapark
- pw = galenamusic
Please help spread the word and share this information with all students & faculty members. A good time to share is when you are discussing copyright, research, digital citizenship topics, etc.

This series is a leadership development program for employees, from classroom teachers to current administrators, who want to lead more effectively.
