And just like that, we're nearing the half way mark of this third quarter with progress reports being submitted by teachers this Friday, February 3rd. We're looking forward to a rally this week on Wednesday to kick off Black History Month.

8th Grade Promotion Basics
A detailed promotion packet will come out at the start of the 4th quarter for all 8th grade students and families. However, in order to help you to plan, some promotion basics follow:
- When: Thursday, May 25, 2023
- 8:30 - 9:30 HORNETS Team
- 10:30 - 11:30 TIGERS Team
- 1:00 - 2:00 AGGIES Team
- Where: Franklin High School Gym
- Tickets: 4 general admission tickets per student - NO EXCEPTIONS
- Tickets will be dispersed to 8th grade students during Promotion Practice at Toby on Wednesday, May 24
- 4 tickets per student is a hard cap, NO EXCEPTIONS. It's a facilities capacity limit.
- Eligibility:
- Students must NOT have been home suspended for disciplinary reasons within 20 school days of promotion
- Students must meet credit requirements for passing classes (counselors are the point of contact)

ACTIVITIES
Our next Rally is scheduled for this Wednesday 2/1 with a SuperHero theme. Students can look forward to an exciting jammed packed rally and a superhero Advocacy lesson planned by Leadership students. We will follow the rally bell schedule on that day. This Rally will feature the 7th-grade basketball team, the Wrestling team, Poly Dance Team, Frankin High School BSU Step Team, Franklin High School Fusion Dance Team, and Leadership lead games.
TJMS Spirit Items:
We now have socks and totes available for purchase in our student store for $10.
Loved Ones on the Lawn:
SAVE the DATE we will be hosting our first Loved Ones on the Lawn Lunch Thursday, February 9th, and Friday, February 10th. Parents/Guardians are invited to come and join their students at TJMS for lunch on one or both days. 8th Grade Lunch is 11:19-11:51 and 7th Grade Lunch is 12:47-1:19. We have to verify that Loved Ones on the Lawn are the registered guardians of students. To speed up that process at the gate significantly, using this form to register will allow us to look up the information in advance in Synergy and have an approved list of visitors already waiting at the gate upon your arrival. If you do not register in advance, be prepared to line up and sign in at the gate and verify identification.
PBIS FAMILY SUPPORT
PBIS provides prizes and special activities on campus to promote positive behavior. Families can help support our PBIS team by discussing the PBIS Focus at home, attending Dine-Out Events, purchasing items off our Amazon wish list, or donating for upcoming events. Dear Elk Grove Unified Families, Students and Staff,
We are aware of national news covering the beating and death of Tyre Nichols, a Sacramento native. Disturbing videos have been released this evening, which are reported to be very graphic, alarming and upsetting. Our hearts go out to Mr. Nichols’ family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Elk Grove Unified remains united in our commitment to social justice. Hate, racism and discrimination have no place in or outside of our schools.
Students, staff and community members may have difficulty understanding and processing this loss. Please know that we have resources available to anyone who may need additional support. We encourage families to reach out to your school site directly if you believe your student could benefit from any extra social emotional support at school.

January 31, 2023: Loving Others Through and Through Using the 5 Love Languages
Join us virtually on Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. for "Loving Others Through and Through Using the 5 Love Languages." In this workshop, participants will learn about the logic behind Gary Chapman's, "5 Love Languages" and they will leave with the knowledge of how to love others in a way that creates unity and bonding rather than unintended division. This workshop applies both to PreK and elementary age students as well as middle school, high school and beyond.

February 25, 2023: Black Family Conference 2023
EGUSD, the Department of Family and Community Engagement and our Families of Black Students United (FBSU) Affinity Space are proud to convene the 1st Annual Black Family Conference at Smedberg Middle School. Our theme this year is: From Challenge to Triumph. There will be workshops for 6th-12th grade students, families, caregivers and other caring adults focusing on activism, advocacy, empowerment and much more. This is a free event. APIDA promotes early awareness of college access and career preparation for K-12, two-year, four-year, and transfer-ready community college Asian Pacific Islander Desi American students and their families. Details to come in the coming weeks.

March 4, 2023: EGUSD Young Men of Color Empowerment Conference
This will be a unique opportunity to meet other young men of color from different campuses and different cultures. Throughout the day, each student will have the opportunity to attend 3 dynamic workshops, engage with student and community speakers, and connect and network with district staff, students, and community members. Lunch will be provided and each registrant will go home with a goodie bag, community resources, and an embraced self and vision.
