PTA Power! Teacher Morale! Book Talks! Mimio Boards! More!
Notes from the Office
Our staff know the power of PTA! Students engaged in a "Book Talk" with author Peter Reynolds, author of “Ish” , and you can see him on a "Mimio" board. PTA made both the book talk and Mimio purchase for our school (see pics at top!). You may also know the research that teacher morale lifts student achievement. Look at all of the happy faces of staff after the PTA coffee truck! The partnership with staff and families is an ongoing point of pride for Red Rocks. Our staff say: THANK YOU, PTA!
Help School Funding: October Count Day-Mark it
School funding depends on student attendance. The official October Count date is Monday, October 2. Thank you for ensuring student attendance. See the attached letter in today's email. Thanks for your support and awareness of how Attendance Matters to kids growth trajectory.
PEER MENTORS!! Our first meeting will be this Tuesday, September 26 in Mr. Austin's room. We will meet from 2:45-3:30. We are excited to start the year!
RED ROCKS SHARES Thank you to all the families who donated to our Red Rocks Shares! We appreciate your generosity. Our peer mentors and student council sponsor other "Shares" initiatives, like coat drives, and our annual "Pennies for Patients" Leukemia Lymphoma Society fundraiser. Stay tuned.
Safety Drill: We practice annual safety drills according to district and state expectations. Our safety drill on Monday is our annual lockdown drill, and more info about the drills can be found here. We practice "prepared not scared" concepts and drills are completed positively. Call Mr. Isaac if you have additional questions.

Let’s talk safety at the Raccoon Run, which keeps this tradition going each year:
- NO DOGS allowed in any spectator areas.
- Students will gather with their classrooms under a designated Meeting Area Tent after the race.
- Take a picture with Rocky in the Photo Op Area of the Parking Lot, then return to the tent.
- K-3 will return to school shortly after their race is finished, while 4th-5th graders will remain in town to cheer for the younger students.
- All students will walk up the hill with their classrooms, where ribbons and medals will be awarded.
- Students may NOT leave the secured Finish Area without a Teacher or Para-- NOT even with a parent, relative, or older sibling. This means that students can't leave the secured area to watch siblings cross the finish line - even with a parent or grandparent.
Book Fair is October 6-October 13
A lot of volunteers are needed to make our book fair successful. Use the Sign Up Genius to help out.
Mrs. McDowell also needs one person to help with morning set up and end of day. Email her at Lynne.McDowell@jeffco.k12.co.us If you are interested.
A Note from the PTA
This year marks the 30th anniversary of our raccoon run! Not only is this a beloved school tradition, but it is also our BIGGEST fundraising event/opportunity of the year. We will not be having a large gala event this year, so the activities that the PTA enables will be primarily supported through the funds raised as part of this run!
What are those activities that the PTA supports, you ask?!
- Back to School Social
- Paint on the Rocks
- Film on the Rocks
- Carnival
- Teacher Training
- Teacher Classroom Support
- School Technology Needs (freeing up funds for additional classroom aides)
- Student Enrichment (new grade level budget to support increased student enrichment opportunities/field trips)
We are grateful for our strong community!
