AMCS Academic Awards Ceremony
We will be holding our Academic Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 in the Student Union Bldg lower lobby area from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Academic Letters and Stars with corresponding certificates will be handed out to the students that have met ASD's standard for both Fall and Spring Semesters. Below are the criteria used to determine the awards, as outlined in the 2019-20 High School Student Handbook:
- "To earn an ASD academic letter, any student who has fulfilled the
criteria for Honor Roll in two consecutive semesters will be awarded
an Academic Letter. These semesters need not fall in order of fall and
spring semester, but may be considered consecutive if the GPA is earned
in the spring semester and the following fall semester. Any semester
the student meets the Honor Roll criteria subsequent to the awarding
of the Academic Letter and earns a 3.5 to 4.0, a silver star is awarded.
Any semester the student meets the Honor Roll criteria subsequent to
the awarding of the Academic Letter and earns a 4.0 or higher, a gold
star is awarded."
Want to know for sure whether or not you/your student will be receiving an award? Please call the office @ 786-7611.
We'll have pizza, too!

Constitutional Convention of 1787 @ AMCS 2020
Students in the high school US Government class just finished Reacting to the Past: Constitutional Convention 1787, a Barnard University program in which students are assigned roles to play from a past historical event (in this case, the creation of the US Constitution) which are informed by classic texts and primary sources from a specific historical event. Students have been working hard writing, speaking, debating and negotiating a new US Constitution based on the history of the historical character they were assigned. This is an interactive unit within the high school US Government class in which people may be arrested, sent back to their home state due to lack of funds, or even to engage in a dual.
Counselor's Corner
Graduation Survey - We are still missing 40 senior responses to the Graduation Survey! All seniors must complete this survey regardless of where they will be participating in graduation.
As part of the survey, students select where (and if) they will be participating in a graduation ceremony. The information collected will be used to notify the affiliate schools of who to anticipate will be participating in their ceremonies. The deadline to elect to participate in an affiliate school ceremony is March 4th. Following that date, affiliate schools will be sent lists of who will be participating with them. Changes may not be allowed after that time.
Please complete the survey TODAY. AMCS Graduation Survey
