School Procedures
Arrival & Dismissal
Staff will be outside every morning at 7:25-7:55 am to greet your child and help direct traffic. Please see the arrival/dismissal procedures below. All parents/guardians must have their pick-up sign displayed in their car window. You will be asked to go to our main office to show proper identification should you not have a sign. Traffic is typically busier during the first weeks of school, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. This allows just one more level of protection for our students.
At dismissal, we ask for our Walkers to exit first from the school grounds as soon as possible. As a group, they are more visible and safer when exiting together. Waiters, a group waiting in the back for parents, is an option for those who park their car and walk to pick-up their children. The hardship for Waiters is street parking congestion - we will continue to work with local authorities to help ease this concern. Our last group, Drive-line parents have done an excellent job waiting for Walkers to exit. We appreciate your patience and smiles! Thank you!
A Letter from Superintendent, Dr. Westfall
Keller ISD Families,
As you have most likely seen in recent news reports, issues related to vaping are a growing concern, and here in Keller ISD, we are committed to working together to ensure our community is aware of the dangers associated with this harmful trend.
Vaping continues to impact schools across the country, and unfortunately, Keller ISD is not exempt. It is important that we learn to identify its use and eliminate it from our students’ lives. Last spring, we reached out, encouraging parents to educate themselves on the latest electronic vaping devices used to ingest marijuana and other harmful substances. Vaping devices can be hidden in a charger that fits easily and discreetly into any computer USB port. We know that education is a significant first step in prevention, and Keller ISD is continually working to provide our families with information regarding drug trends.
As a reminder, beginning September 1, a new state law raises the legal age for vaping or smoking in Texas to 21. However, because of additional changes in the law, hemp and hemp-derived oils such as CBD are becoming increasingly easy to purchase, even by minors. It is important that our students and families know that possession of any tobacco products, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vapes, or any component, part, or accessory violates the Keller ISD Student Code of Conduct and students will be disciplined accordingly, even if the item is legal off-campus.
Please keep the lines of communication with your student open, and know the risks associated with vaping of any kind. We want to keep our students safe and healthy but cannot do it alone. A website is now available with resources that our families might find useful. Visit www.KellerISD.net/StopVaping to learn more. We are asking everyone to work together – please join us in our efforts to maintain a positive learning environment for our students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rick Westfall | Superintendent
