The Varsity Girls' game scheduled for January 19, 2015 has been moved to Wallace State. Sparkman will play Spain Park at 12:00pm, and Hazel Green will play Austin at 1:30pm. There will be $5 admission charge for spectators. Come support our #3 Lady Trojans!

Current Announcements

Learning Community Fundraiser - The Learning Community Fundraiser ends Friday, January 16. Shirts are long-sleeve Comfort Color. HG is on Front chest pocket, and the state logo on the back. Shirts are $25 and proceeds benefit community outings for the students of the HGHS Learning Community. Here is the link to order: http://goo.gl/forms/h6k9E02HvW . Second Semester Fees - The fee deadline for second semester is February 20. After that, students will be added to the debtor's list. Visit the school website for a list of fees. Fees may be paid at www.myschoolfees.com or to Mrs. Weir.


Trojan Miss - Join us for the annual Trojan Miss Pageant on February 13th and 14th! 9th-12th grade pageant will be held February 13th at 7:00pm. Little and Junior Trojan Miss pageant will be held Saturday, February 14th at 10:00. Entry fee is $40. For pageant information, registration and online payment, visit the Trojan Miss website.


Youth Speed and Agility School -
All male athletes who are currently in 4th-7th grade are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Hazel Green Speed and Agility School. Join the football coaches every Tuesday and Thursday night from 5:30-6:30pm in the football complex to work on quickness, proper form, overall athleticism and work ethic. The school runs from January 7th-March 20th, and the cost is FREE!


Meridianville Rec Volleyball - Meridianville Athletic Association is offering volleyball this season for boys and girls ages 7-16. Registration runs through January 27th. They are also hosting a players and coaches clinic conducted by Coach Hughes, Head Volleyball Coach at HGHS. For more information, visit www.maa4sports.com.

Yearbook Ads - Parents it is time to place your order for a senior ad in the 2015 yearbook to honor your senior. All ads are full color. You may submit your own design or one of our talented staff members will create one for you. Pricing: 1/8= $75, 1/4=$95, 1/2=$130, Full page= $180, 2 page spread= $275. No WORD documents please. Our system will support Studio Works and Photo Shop if changes need to be made. Contact Mrs. Brady at ebrady@madison.k12.al.us if you would like to reserve a spot today.


Balfour - All cap and gown payments/ graduation fees are due no later than May 1. Payment must be made directly to Balfour . Parents may call them at 205-733-1060 and make payment over the phone or email and arrange payment with them at alabamabalfour@gmail.com. Balfour representatives will be on campus in the school lunchroom during lunch periods on January 22-23 and January 27-28. The students and/or parents may make payment to Balfour at this time.

Prom

Prom Committee Meeting after school in Mrs. Morrison's room January 28th after school.


Prom money is due to Mrs. Bell or Mrs. Dean. The price is $60 a ticket, but will go up after January 30th.


Girls Dress Code:

1. Excessive cleavage is not allowed.

2. Dress may be backless as long as it is not cut below the waist.

3. Navel may not be exposed.

4. No pinning will be allowed as an alteration for a dress if, without the pinning, the dress does not meet dress code.

5. Dress should not be excessively short or pulled up when dancing.


Boys Dress Code:

1. Suits or tuxedos should be worn.

3. Shirts must be buttoned up to the second button from the collar.

4. Pants should fit properly on the hip and not sag below the waistline.

Special Programs

Robo Camp - Registration is open for the spring 2015 Robo Camp, a program developed by Auburn University's Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering to introduce students ages 10-17 to computer science and computational thinking concepts. Camp participants will be familiarized with hands-on applications of computer programming and robotics using a variety of computer programs. No prior computing experience is required. Camp will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Shelby Center computer labs. The fee is $185 and registration is limited. Eta Phi Beta Junior Cotillion - Boys and girls from grades seven through nine will be featured as our “rising stars.” Our stars will be showcased at a Star-Studded Gala on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Von Braun Center. You and your child are invited to attend our Get Acquainted-Informational Tea, Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 3406 Meridian Street, Huntsville, AL 35811. Information and questions concerning the Cotillion will be addressed at this time.

Delta Sigma Theta Honors Convocation -
The Huntsville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is accepting applications for its 36th Annual High School Honors Convocation. Each year, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recognizes the accomplishments of local high school students who have achieved honor roll status during the Fall Semester. All students in grades 9-12 who have earned an A and/or B average for each subject during the first semester is eligible to participate. For more information, please contact Mr. William Heard (wheard@madison.k12.al.us) in the Guidance Office for a complete application packet. The deadline to submit applications is January 26th, 2015.


Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week - Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement. All weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor in May, and two students are selected as Athletes of the Year. The two Athletes of the Year each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Complete the nomination form online or call (256) 265-5000 for more information. HGHS had several representatives last year so apply today!

Trojan Daily Tips - All the newest information will be at the top, followed by our Athletic Schedules, Current Announcements, Senior Information and Permananent Announcements. Information from previous newsletters remains posted in Current Announcements until it expires. I welcome parents to send scores, pictures and updates from any Hazel Green sports or activities. We can't brag about it if we don't know about it. Scholarship and college visit information will only be posted once, and then it can be found on separate webpages for General Scholarships, College and University Scholarships, and School Visits and Special Programs.


Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form in to Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.

Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors during school. First Priority/FCS
meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.


Parenting Assistance Line:
PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.


Recycle:
Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.


Reward Cards:
Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.

(Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag. Just stop by the main office to pick one up.
