A Message from Principal Whitehead
Monday is the Vernal (or Spring) Equinox. The spring equinox marks the point in time when the sun sits directly over the Earth's equator as it heads northward. Both hemispheres share the sun's rays equally at the equinox, and night and day are roughly the same length. I love the idea of light and warmth increasing almost as much as I love spring wildflowers. Spring is always a reminder of renewal and rejuvenation.
In the academic sense, spring is also the season of that last push towards the finish line! Many of your child's teachers are working to teach those last few skills and standards that we need to finish strong. We love for our students to be present at school and learning! Please help students to arrive on time. Be sure to speak to your child about finishing strong.
Soon we will be celebrating our students at the 3rd Nine Weeks Academic Awards next Monday, March 27th at 5:30PM. We like to celebrate Perfect Attendance, A Honor Roll, A&B Honor Roll, and Star Students on those nights.

March Virtue: Courage
Everyday courage starts with having a growth mindset, believing in yourself, and positive self-talk. Our students need the qualities of perseverance and grit to overcome obstacles in their lives.
Alexandra from Big Life Journal recently wrote, “With young children, you can use your authority to motivate them to stick with something difficult. But with tweens and teens, telling them what to do often won't cut it.
To help them build persistence, you need to connect them with a bigger vision of who they're becoming or a purpose of what they want to achieve.
Patience isn't just about having a strong will or determination. It's about showing them how their current efforts are paving the way for something greater.
If your tween or teen is feeling discouraged and thinks that something isn't worth it, that's the perfect opportunity to have a conversation with them.
Ask them to share their dreams and show them how their daily work can help them get there. This will give them the patience they need to persist, even when the task seems mundane or difficult.
Offering positive affirmations such as "I am strong and capable" or "discomfort means growth" can also help them push through those tough moments.
Ultimately, supporting and showing interest in your teen's bigger goals can help them develop the patience and staying power they need to succeed.”
