  • The teacher workday for Turrill teachers is from 8:40 – 3:45.
  • On Collaboration or SIP/Staff Meetings the teacher workday is 7:50 - 3:45.
  • 1-Hour Professional Development Days are from 7:40-8:40.

Opportunity Night at Lapeer High School

Monday, Jan. 14th, 5:30-8pm

Parents and Students:

We are proud to announce that Lapeer is hosting an Opportunity Night on Monday, January 14th from 5:30-8:00pm! The purpose of this event is to provide our community with an opportunity to learn more about the wide variety of programming we offer 6-12. Understanding the various opportunities at this level will enable you to help guide your son/daughter’s academic decisions, enabling you, in conjunction with our counseling and teaching staff, to create a plan that is unique and addresses his/her interests, aptitudes and aspirations. Now is the time to plan!

At Lapeer High School, there will be representatives from all of our programs. Beginning at 5:30 with a general presentation in the auditorium, you will have the chance to sit in on up to four educational sessions lasting about 25 minutes each in a small group setting. In addition, you will be able to check out and gather information about our clubs, groups and departments in the cafeteria during the entire evening.

This is your opportunity to learn more about the CHOICES at Lapeer Community Schools! Come check us out!

Important Reminders for Tri 2 (nothing new about the process - just the upcoming dates):

"Data Day Prep" PLCs will take place the week of Feb 4th
  • Goal: to identify Tier II and III students using MAP results and available classroom data such as DRA, conferring notes, guided reading progress, etc.
  • Goal: to identify current strengths and areas of focus for each student

Data Days are scheduled on February 11th - 13th.

  • Goal: to develop Student Assistance Plans (IRIPs) for all identified Tier II and III students
  • Beth Rupprecht will be attending all Data Days for support in creating IRIPs (and assessment letters if possible)

The end of Trimester 2 is Friday, February 15th. It is also K-5 Records Day.

Teachers should have put into Illuminate by the end of Records Day:

  • DRA
  • Available math pre and/or post scores
  • Available writing pre and/or post scores

Report Cards will be sent home electronically on Wednesday, February 27th.

Additionally, students will be sent home with hard copies of the following:

  • Assessment letters
  • MAP reports
  • IRIP letters if applicable

Young Scholar Dates for December and January

Lower Elementary 2:00-2:30

Upper Elementary 2:45-3:15

  • All classes dismissed at the same time
  • Designated areas for classroom
  • Honoring the Reader (certificate and Hungry Howie's certificate), Author (certificate and Hungry Howie's certificate), Teacher selected Student of the Month (certificate and Pizza lunch with the principal)
  • Picture time at the end for parents with students on the stage

MAP Testing Reminders:

  • Schedules for testing individual students and small groups can be downloaded below.
  • Names of specific students and testing days are included but not specific times.
  • Actual testing times will have to be flexible to accommodate the number of students.


Remember to keep PLC conversations student centered and to take notes:

  • What do we want students to know?
  • How will we assess what they know?
  • What will we do if they haven't learned it?
  • What will we do if they have mastered it?

I've asked Ken to pop into PLCs with me to provide us with some feedback.

Important Dates

Additional Professional Work Time Requirements

Seven hours of required professional development time shall be provided in accordance to the schedule that follows. Absences during this professional development time which are covered by sick leave or personal business leave shall be deducted from such accrued leave. Absences relating to student competitions (not practices) are allowable with prior approval of school business leave.

Remaining ONE HOUR PDs:

  • February 28 one-hour PD
  • March 14 one-hour PD
  • April 11 one-hour PD Elementary Only (K-5)
  • May 16 one-hour PD

Four additional hours of online professional development are required to be completed no later than June 1, 2019. Topics for online professional development sessions will be reviewed and approved by the evaluator no later than the conclusion of the Initial Teacher Evaluation Meeting in the fall. Topics for online PD must support building and/or District School Improvement Plans. Documentation of completion of online sessions must be submitted in June. Online professional development may not be completed during times assigned for student instruction, teacher collaboration, professional development, or SIP.

Emergency Situations:

1. Is there an ongoing emergency?

2. Does the student's behavior pose an imminent risk to student's or others' safety?

3. Does the situation require an immediate intervention?

Protocol for Summoning the Team:

  • Classroom teacher will contact the office by any means necessary
  • Secretary (or available office staff) will use Walkie Talkie to call for "CARE Team to Room (include teacher's name)

Team members:

  • All Level 2 CPI trained staff
  • Custodial Staff
  • Office Staff

Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT)

Purpose: called in emergency Medical situations.

Protocol for Summoning the Team:

  • Classroom teacher will contact the office by any means necessary
  • Secretary (or available office staff) will use Walkie Talkie to call for "MERT Team to Room (include teacher's name)
