New ZR Maker Spaces
We need your help!
We have created a space in the library to include something new for our students! MAKER SPACES! Basically, it is a place where students can come and learn by doing. The are given many choices of things to make, invent, create, fix, deconstruct, construct, etc. Opportunities like this take a lot of planning, work, and $$$. To make this program successful, we need supplies, donations, and volunteers.
What is a maker space??
A Place to Discover
Students will discover they have abilities, talents, and interests they didn't know they had.
A Place to Learn
Students will learn new technology like coding, electrical circuits, using tools, simple machines, computer language.
A Place to Create
Students will be given an opportunity to make their imagination come to life, learn how failure is one of the most important parts of creating, and feel the delayed gratification of hard work and persistence.
A Place to Learn From Each Other
Students will be able to learn from other students, and given an opportunity to teach other students.
A Place to Learn About Teamwork
Students will learn to be a productive member of a team, work together to solve problems and tackle challenges together.
A Place to Empower
Students will discover they have the ability and the tenacity to achieve more than they expected!
What Can I Do?
You Can Help Us Make This Happen!
We need volunteers. We need supplies. We need donations. We have set up an Amazon List of things to help us get started. We will continue to add to the list throughout the year, as we plan and implement more spaces. Those who purchase items on the Amazon list, will get their names/business names on the container for that maker space, along with their name on the wall at library's east entrance. The list can be found here. If you purchase an item from the list for our maker space, choose that the item is a gift in your shopping cart, and add your name to the note. Have the item shipped to the school at this address:
Zeigler-Royalton Elem/Jr. High School
4877 State Highway 148 North
Mulkeytown, IL . 62865
If you would like to volunteer your time to help students in our Maker Spaces, please call the office (618-596-2121), and we will find a time that works best for you! We plan to start implementing the spaces after Christmas Break.
Additionally, we will be asking for items to be donated based on various project needs using Mrs. Bailey's monthly 411 throughout the school year.
