Ms. Harris' Weekly Update

What's Going On This Week
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week we will be reviewing Lessons 1-4 on Plant and Animal Life Cycles and Classifying Plants and Animals. Students should be studying their notes nightly. They will have a quiz on Lessons 1-4 on Friday.
- Ms. Shipp's Social Studies: Students we begin analyzing the causes of the American Revolution by studying the French and Indian War. A vocabulary quiz will be given next Monday.
- Ms. Thurston's ELA/Math:This week we will start long division. In ELA, students will be learning how to summarize information and continuing to work on their expert exhibit essays.
- Ms. Harris' ELA/Math:In math this week, we will start long division. Students will be shown a method in class that may be different to how we all learned long division in school. The idea is for kids to be able to understand the process of long division not just the computation. Please be patient while your child is practicing this method. There is a video link below about the "partial quotients method" to help with any confusion. In ELA, we will be reading biographies and starting our new Junior Great Book story, "The Green Man." Our test will be on Friday. There is no spelling this week, but students will be get their next list on Friday for the following week.
Expert Exhibit December 16th
Outlining and writing is coming along excellently for our Expert Exhibit project! The Exhibit event will be on December 16th and will be open for parents from 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm. Remember the students need a costume and/or prop by 12/16 for the presentation!
Raptor Center Coming to FMES!
On December 6th from 11 - 12 pm the Raptor Center will be coming for an in school field trip. It will be a blast since our class has been learning about plants and animals in science!
Winter Chorus Concert November 29th
The Winter Chorus Musical will be November 29th. The 4th and 5th grade chorus will be performing for the school at 1:30 pm and at 6:30pm for family and friends!
Other Information
- Our school has created a Mitten Tree. The tree will be filled with mittens of gifts that can be purchased for families who might not be able to afford many gifts for Christmas. This is a great opportunity to give back to our community since the mittens are for families at FMES. If you would like to participate, you must come in to select the mitten yourself, email Mr. Finch, or send a note in with a child to select a mitten. What a great way to spread holiday cheer!
- The last day of the quarter is November 21st. This year is flying by! Grades will be available after break.
- The Plant and animal science Symbaloo is now available! Students can use this as an additional study/review tool. The link is below:
