Dear Madison Community,
The annual all-school photo is scheduled for Monday, April 1, 2019, at 2:30 pm, weather permitting. Please have your child wear Madison school's shade of blue or Madison Spirit Wear, if available. This year, we will be forming a large letter "M".
For those unfamiliar with this photo, each year the whole school is photographed as a group in a fun way. It's pretty exciting as the Color Portraits photographer climbs to the roof of the school to capture this special moment.
This picture will appear in the yearbook, the Madison Paw Prints. Morning kindergarten students are invited to return to school with their parent or guardian to be included in the photo. Attached is last year's all-school photo as it appeared in the yearbook.
Please mark this on your calendar, as it is the first day we return from Spring Break!
Thank you,
Tim Callahan
Madison Elementary Principal
Order a yearbook
It's not too late to order a copy of the Madison Paw Prints 2018-2019. Please click here to place an order. A yearbook costs $17 and will be delivered to the student before the end of the school year. This spreadsheet includes all orders as of March 18, 2019.
TreeRing offers two custom pages for FREE in addition to the 52 page standard yearbook. The deadline to complete these custom pages is April 10, 2019. Please remember to select "PRINT READY" when completed, otherwise, a standard non-custom yearbook will be printed for the order.
Explore More Day instructors needed
On Explore More Day, May 24, regular classes are set aside so students can try out different science, sport or art activities. Second - 5th graders can choose five exciting classes from a wide variety of course offerings led by Madison staff, parents and community members. Kindergarten and 1st grade follow a set curriculum.
We are looking for volunteers to lead:
-slime, gak and ooze
-soap making
We’ll share all the information from past years to help you prepare. Teach solo, or pair up with another parent.
If you would be willing to serve as a class instructor, or if you have a new class you'd be willing to lead, please contact Rachel Bailey, Stephanie Brown, or Amy Fiorato at emd@madisonschoolpta.org.
Thank you in advance for your support and enthusiasm for Explore More Day. We hope it will be a very special day for everyone at Madison School. Please consider volunteering your time, a hobby and/or skills.

Save the date - Trivia Night 2019
Trivia Night is Sat., November 2, 2019. This adults-only fundraiser supports the PTA with all its proceeds. Trivia Night is a chance to mingle with friends and make new friends during a night of food, drinks, silent auction and trivia.
Sign-up to join the committee to help in various ways, from planning, getting auction prizes, communicating and helping the actual night of the event. Email mary.g.henderson@gmail.com if you are interested. Our goal is to have a meeting before school is out for summer to get a jump start on planning.
Smile Programs is coming to Madison
Madison has partnered with Smile Programs - the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care on April 4, 2019. Sign up your child with the forms sent home with your student.
Smile Programs are in-school dental programs that save you time and provide a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals. Dental care includes a complete dental exam and cleaning as well as fluoride, sealants and x-rays when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.
Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:
- Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
- Gum disease
- Heart disease
- Impaired speech development
Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning. Permission forms are due by February 20.
Jillian Grant, the school nurse, is looking for a few volunteers that morning and possibly early afternoon. Please contact Amy Angolkar at amyangolkar@yahoo.com if you have some time that day to help. Thank you!
Thank you Chess Club
Thank you for a great 2018/19 chess season! We had 30 students from K-5 sign participate. This year we were able to waive dues to help encourage participation. Also, thanks to the generous support of the Madison PTA, entrance fees for the All-Wheaton Chess Tournament for our students were offset two years in a row!
We had an exciting after-school meet up with Lincoln Elementary School, where 10 students came to Madison to play some friendly games with our team. Based on the success, we'll be doing more in the future with additional schools.
Special thanks to John Weber for volunteering to coach and Amy Angolkar for helping with logistics through the year.
This program would not be possible without the support of the office staff, Brianna and the facilities team helping us ready the rooms after hours. Of course, special recognition to all the parents that volunteered their time to help in the rooms this year. It was a team effort to support the children and your contributions were greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for the opportunity to coach your children. I am looking forward to next year!
Donations to benefit Madison families
If you are looking to donate anything such as clothing, home stuff, toys, electronics, etc. please consider giving to Family Tree Resale on Geneva and Main in Wheaton (by the Jewel).
For every bag of donations they receive on behalf of Madison School, Family Tree will in turn donate a voucher to our school for a family to use to purchase items. Just drive around to the side door, walk in, and someone will help you unload your donations. Be sure to mention Madison School.
Save Your Pop Tabs
Madison Elementary students will be collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities at Central DuPage Hospital throughout the rest of the school year. The funds RMHC receives from recycling the pop tabs helps keep families together while their loved one is in the hospital. RMH provides meals, a place to stay, and the comforts of home during a difficult time. Each grade will have a collection container outside of the office when we return from winter break. Students can collect pop tabs from home, family, friends, or neighbors. The grade with the most tabs collected at the end of the year will receive a special reward. Volunteer in the LLC
If you are looking for additional ways to help out at Madison, please consider volunteering in the library. This year we are short volunteers. Specifically, the LLC could use extra help on Tuesday and Friday mornings (9:15 a.m.-12 p.m.) and Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (1-3:30 p.m.). If you were to volunteer, you could expect to help check in and out books for students, shelf recently returned books and help Mrs. Graham with whatever else she may need that day. It is a lot of fun and we'd love to have you! Please contact Kathryn Medanic at llcvolunteers@madisonschoolpta.org to volunteer.
Save General Mills box tops
Please save General Mills box tops and turn them in to the LLC. Madison can earn ten cents for every General Mills box top received. Thank you to Cecilia Horjes for heading up this effort. We purchased many copies of award books for the library. Thank you for your support.
