Its the second day of battle, and the Union defended fishhooks which are shaped ranges of hills with around 90,000 soldiers. July 2, Lee launched a heavy assault on the Union left flank. Confederates gained ground, the Union still held strong positions at the end of the day.

Fort Fisher
On the 15th, a select force moved on the fort from the back. Benjamin Butler was relived of command. Union forces landed and prepared an attack on Meg. Gen. Robert Hokes infantry line. The Confederate garrison surrendered, opening the way for a Federal thrust against Wilmington.

Appomattox Court House
9,000 men under went Gordon and Fitzhugh Lee deployed in the fields. The attack was launched before 8:00 am. Lee ordered his troops to retreat though the village and back across the Appomattox River. Confederate armies ended the war and began the long and difficult road toward reunification.
