Safe Environment
If you have previously been cleared, you may renew your training online by going to the following site, viewing a training video on relevant topics, and passing a short quiz.
New volunteers will need to attend a training class to complete paperwork, get a badge, and obtain their clearance. Click on http://dallas.setanet.org/classes.php to find parishes with available classes.
If you have any questions, please contact the Safe Environment office at safeenvironment@sbdallas.org or 214.321.0454, ext. 2010.
After School Drama Program
We are excited to start our after school drama program on September 5th from 3:15- 4:15 pm. All classes will take place on Thursdays and class dates are September 5, 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24, November 7, 14, 21, and December 5 with a final performance on December 5th during the class time.
Based on the level of interest I am estimating that the cost of the class will be between $85 and $133 for the 12 sessions but now we need to get a firm count of how many students will be signing up to give you a final total. I am attaching our registration form for the class. You can sign up for this class by filling out the attached registration form and scanning and emailing the form back to me josborne@shakespearedallas.org You can also call our office at 214-559-2778 and ask for Julie or Meagan to sign up for the class. Please note we will not charge your card until we have confirmed the final payment amount of the class with you. Let me know if I can answer any questions or help in any way!
Sincerely,

It takes a Village - H&S invite
Many hands make light labor - especially when running the Home & School Association. A successful year needs the help of many hands - and many talents. We would love to have the help of your time and talent in ways that work for you. Some of our events and tasks are quick and easy; others involve more effort. We do know that not everyone can attend meetings or events, but perhaps you can help with making a flyer/poster, or chaperoning a dance, or bringing snacks to teachers. All help is so appreciated - and it all counts toward those required volunteer hours as well!
Please take a look at the signup genius below, which lists many of the needs we have, and see if any of them match your available time and talents:

Lastly, in an attempt to be better communicators, we want to invite you all to attend our next Home and School Board Meeting in the library at 6:00pm on Wednesday, August 28th. Open to all families who may want to get involved, or just want to see behind the scenes, and discover what it is that Home & School really does. We hope to see you there!

8th Grade Volleyball Tournament
Thursday evening, the 7th grade team, led by Coach McCormick, lost their first game to St. Joseph, but rallied to defeat St. Monica (White) in the second game to make it to the playoffs.
Friday evening, the 8th grade team, led by Coach Southivong, lost to a strong St. Monica (Blue) team, then played a tough game against Holy Trinity, narrowly losing the 3rd set.
Saturday saw our 8th graders defeat St. Monica (White) in the consolation game for the third place trophy, while our 7th graders came up just a bit short against St. Monica (Blue) in the semi-final round. Congrats to both our SBS volleyball teams - you made us proud!

Carnival Raffle Ticket Update
After just a few days, 3rd grade has jumped into the lead, with preK3, 2nd, and 4th tied for second. Let's see some results from the other classes this week!
What Lifts You Up?
Have you noticed the wonderful collection of angel wings in the SBS front hallway? A collaborative project involving the entire student body, it serves as an inspiration for all who see it. Here is the story behind the artwork, by the art teacher who made it happen (Marcie Kenyon).
St. Bernard mourns a class pet
Hazel first belonged to Mrs. Kendall, a former science teacher at SBS, and she was a classmate to SBS students for four years prior to Mrs. Kendall's departure. Mrs. Kendall could no longer keep her and gave her back to SBS. She was in Mr. McCormick's classroom for two weeks getting to know the junior high students before she passed away.
RIP Hazel.

FUN FACTS:
What is the most interesting place you have traveled?
My husband and I backpacked in Europe the summer after graduating from college. We traveled through England, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy. We had so much fun and I was excited to see some of the amazing museums and artwork that I had studied while in college.
Are you a dog or cat person?
I am definitely a dog person. We have three dogs: a lab mix named Scout, a basset hound named Penelope, and a dachshund named Peggy. I also have a tarantula named Harriet and a hermit crab named Marilyn.
Do you have a bucket list item you would like to share?
I would like to sell everything and just travel all over the world.
