Welcome back, RMS families!
We hope that everyone is ready (and maybe even a little excited) for the 2020/2021 school year! This year is certainly going to be different than any school year we've ever experienced but we're confident that it will be amazing. We hope that the SEL Newsletter will be a helpful source of information for families. We realize that this first newsletter contains a LOT of information, but we hope that you'll stick with us and know that future newsletters will be more manageable. Please reach out to us with any questions, comments or recommendations or if there is anything we can do to support your child(ren) and family.

Back to School Lunch Tips
- Students will have lunch in the cafeteria, seated at individual desks spaced six feet apart. All desks and chairs will be sanitized after each lunch period.
- Masks can be removed while seated and actively eating, but must be put on when finished or asking to leave the cafeteria or to speak to a staff member.
- Students often ask for help with opening things in their lunch box. Please consider having your child practice opening their lunch items to minimize contact between staff and students.
Common Items Students Need Help Opening
- Yogurt tubes
- Juice boxes/pouches
- Fruit cups
- Thermos containers
- Water bottles
- Sandwich containers
- Fruit snacks
We're getting creative in order to provide our students with safe opportunities to play and engage with their peers. Students will have recess outside on the playground one grade level at a time. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions we are not able to use the play structure, swing set, Chloe Whirl or loose playground equipment. When available, we will be able to use easy-to-sanitize equipment (thank you, Mr. Woodward!) and supervising staff will assist students with cleaning equipment after use. Here are some other details for how recess will look this year:
1.) Students will remain with their class for recess.
2.) There are separate sections identified on the grass and blacktop for each class.
3.) Each of these sections will have a socially distant recess activity for the class to participate in. The next day that they are in school they will rotate to a different activity.
4.) If a student does not want to participate in the recess activity provided for them they may utilize the walking track or the designated Fresh Air Break spot.
