Our first official Snow Day....how fun!
Greetings CCS Families:
Hopefully you have enjoyed this extra time together while remaining safe and warm! We have missed everyone, but know these breaks can offer new opportunities for enhanced fun and family/friend connections. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday and to hearing many of the stories shared.
"He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes... He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow." (Psalm 147: 16;18)
It was a short week at CCS, but we still accomplished much! We had 17 new families attend our annual open house on Sunday, our board adopted the 2023-24 school year calendar on Monday, our kindergarten class visited Kensington Nature Center on Tuesday, we are close to finalizing our after school club offering schedule, making final plans for next year's middle school Washington DC trip, and our teachers were SUPER productive on Friday as they wrapped up first semester grading and collaborated with one another on upcoming events. All in all, while a little different, it was still a terrific week and one hopefully all enjoyed.
Please read on for more updates and information...
2023-24 School Calendar Adopted!
Great News! Our 2023-24 calendar has been approved and is ready to distribute to our families! We know having this information well in advance will help everyone with planning and family scheduling.
As a tremendous positive, the school was able to add six (6) additional instructional days (moving from this year's 174 - 180). We were able to prioritize more family time BEFORE Christmas than many area schools, and we were also able to establish a long weekend "fall break" in October.
Parents will note one slight adjustment over this year's calendar. To pick up the 6 days, the school needed to either start sooner or extend school out a week. The board, which is comprised of retired educators, business leaders, professionals, and both former and current parents, decided to start school a week earlier to meet this need. With that noted, there is still a longer Labor Day weekend set aside for families so that all can enjoy the remaining days of summer.
A copy of next year's calendar is attached to the original Thunder Post email. We thank the board, the parent calendar committee, CCS staff, and school leadership for their input and efforts behind the scenes to put together what is sure to be a phenomenal school year for our students.
Moms in Prayer this Friday, Feb 3
Hello Moms: Please consider joining us for Moms in Prayer this Friday, Feb 3 beginning at 9:00 in the student center. This is a great time to connect with other moms and lift up our students, our families, our staff, and our school together.
All are welcome!
School Starts at 8:35 a.m. on Monday!
Good morning Sunshine!
As a gentle reminder, all k-8 classes will start at 8:35 beginning Monday.
While we are excited about these new morning instructional minutes being added to our program, please know we are aware that a mid-year adjustment may require some flexibility with our families. Rest assured we will work with all to ensure a smooth transition.
March Reading activites and read-a-thon coming soon!
More information will be coming home as we move closer to this time.
February's Patriotic and President's Day Theme!
Strategic Planning resumes on Monday, Jan 30th
Next C3 meeting set for Feb 16
As an FYI, the school is looking to host March's C3 meeting after school so that working parents could attend as we know not everyone can make morning meeting times. More on that to follow...
Renrollment Packets go out Wednesday, Feb 1
This year, we hope parents find the re-enrollment process easy and as close to "one click" as we can make it. Holly Manssur, our wonderful, new and talented marketing director, is presently updating our website to accommodate various forms for all areas within our school, including our re-enrollment form.
Parents will note a new, updated tuition agreement (complete with next year's reduced tuition numbers) along with a $250 incentive to enroll before March. Early enrollment helps the school with our internal planning, staffing, and room/curriculum needs.
We are excited about all that God is doing in and through CCS! We look forward to our continued partnership with each of you as we continue this journey together.
Spring 2024 Washington DC Trip Planning...
While specific details and the exact itinerary are still being finalized, it looks like it will take place in late April, be 4-5 days, and cost just under $1000. Again...those are preliminary numbers as we continue to work through some of the details with the tour company.
As we know this is a significant financial undertaking for our students, we are planning now for various fundraisers. We have tentatively set aside a few dates for potential summer car washes here at CEPC and have few other fundraising ideas scheduled to take place over the next 12-15 months.
With that in mind, CCS is looking for a parent (or team) to help us with some of these fundraising efforts. As a possible incentive, such a person, (or team) could attend the trip at a discounted rate if desired. If you have interest, please let our school principal, Mrs. Nettleingham know asap.
Thunder Sports!
As we begin to prepare for spring sports, if you would like to sign up to coach our cross country team please contact our AD Ms. Jackson. Cross country will begin on April 10, 2023.
After-School Clubs Start Monday, Feb 6.
Art Club
Sports Club
Winter "Boredom Busters"
Lego Club
We are still open to ideas for potential clubs and looking for parent leaders. More information will be sent out via email this week with with the specifics on each club and the days they will meet.
We're off to see the Wizard...
Planning is well underway for this year's Spring Musical "The Wizard of OZ". Auditions are coming up on February 7th and 8th and information on afternoon rehearsals will be coming home soon afterwards.
We thank Mrs. Olson and her team in advance for all of the time, energy, and creativity that goes into such a production. It is sure to be enjoyed by all and continues to be such a special time for our students and CCS families.
