Hamilton Elementary
March 29, 2020 Lions Lines Updates
Message from Mrs. Papaioannou
This week, all families received calls from your child’s homeroom teacher. We want to make certain that our students have access to the Learning at Home resources. We are here to support you and our Lions in their Learning at Home efforts, and we will continue to reach out to you this week.
Curbside meals will continue Monday-Friday from 10am-1pm at designated campuses throughout the district. Please see the district website for all locations. www.cfisd.net. Learning at Home packets will be available this week on Tuesday and Thursday at curbside meal locations.
Beginning April 7th, Learning at Home packets will be available for pickup at Hamilton. More information will be communicated on Friday.
Friday, April 3rd, will be designated First Responder Friday. We are asking all our Lions to place a stuffed animal and a note inside the front window of their homes as a show of gratitude for our first responders. Please feel to share the picture on social media or our school Flipgrid https://admin.flipgrid.com/manage/grids/3082982 using the hashtag #Hamiltonpride.
We miss you all!

Note from Nurse Kerri Lamance
Dearest Students and Parents,
I hope all of you are well and safe during this unusual time. I want you to know I am here to support you in any capacity needed.I can be reached by email: kerri.lamance@cfisd.net . You can also call my office number, 281-320-7056. I have this forwarded to my cell phone. Should I not answer, please leave a detailed message and a call back number.
I will be working on information that some of the students will need for next year. If your child will need anything, I will be sending this to you in an email. I will try my best to put the information in one email to make it easier on you.
Medications - Some of your children have medications at school. I have not set up a time for these to be picked up due to the Harris County Order on social isolation. We will have guidelines for pick up at a later time. If your child needs the medication now, please contact me and I can make arrangements to meet you at the school.
Please be sure to frequently go to our CFISD website with information, resources and FAQs https://www.cfisd.net/en/parents-students/health/coronavirus
Below are links to some videos you may want to share with your children. A couple of them are interactive and you can do the activity with your child at home to make it fun to learn. The videos were created by Dr. Michelle Dickenson, AKA Nanogirl. She has lots of different videos available if you like these.
The last link is a parents video on safe grocery shopping created by Dr. Jeffrey Van Wingen.
Please let me know if you need anything. Stay safe and hope to see our students soon.
Sincerely,
Kerri Lamance, RN, BSN

Art News from Ms. K.
Hello artists!
I hope you are all staying healthy and busy! I’m sorry we can’t continue our creative exploration the same way we would in our awesome studio at school, but here are some ideas to keep thinking and making during this time away!
*Note to parents: These activities are suggestions and completely optional! They are simply ideas to help break up that quarantine boredom and get those creative juices flowing! Any grade level (and any family members!) are free to get involved!
If you participate in any of our art challenges, please share so we can see! Options are:
-Post a picture on Instagram and tag our studio account @hesartstudio to be featured!
-Email pictures to me to then be used (with your permission and credit to the artist) at kirsten.gould@cfisd.net
Art is a wonderful way to exercise our brains and spread positivity!
THIS WEEK’S ART CHALLENGES:
1. Found Object Color Wheel
-Find objects around your home that match the colors on the color wheel
(example below)
-Arrange them in circular order and take a picture to share your rainbow!
2. Drawing Challenges (pencils and paper will do just fine, but any other art supplies you may have are absolutely encouraged!)
-Make a still-life set up with small objects around your home and draw them with a pencil from observation! Take some time to study the shapes you see and you may be surprised at how well you do!
-Draw a blind contour portrait of a family member! Simply take a pencil look directly at your subject and draw them! Two rules: You may NOT look at your paper, and you may NOT pick up your pencil tip off of the paper! This always results in silly drawings, and can be a lot of fun!
3. Make your own modeling clay/dough to sculpt with!
You will need:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1 cup cold water
a. In a large bowl, mix table salt and flour together. Gradually add 1/2 cup of water and mix to desired consistency. Knead the dough on a flat surface, adding a few more drops of water as needed (but not making it too moist).
b. Once the dough is made, you can divide it up into small portions to roll into 1/8" thick pieces with a rolling pin. Use cookie cutters to cut out a variety of shapes, or just form it freely! If you’d like to keep your sculptures, place the shapes on wax paper or other non-stick surface to dry.
c. Allow the shapes to dry for a day or two, turning them over periodically to speed up the drying process. Once they are dry, you can use markers or paint to add color!
My goal is to send a few challenges out each week. I hope these ideas help in some small way, and if you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to share something you’ve made, PLEASE don’t hesitate to reach out! Have a great week, Lions! Stay healthy, and keep creating!

Music News from Ms. Parker
Hi Parents and Students!
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy right now! I have created two playlists of songs that you can sing along with at home. Both contain some songs we have been learning in class as well as some fun pop and movie songs. I have divided them by grade levels (K-2 and 3-5), but feel free to browse both links since the songs are different!
Most of the songs should have a “lyrics” video that will pop up and play the song while highlighting the lyrics (hint: give it a few seconds to load before pressing play). If a song does not have a lyric video, feel free to watch the “notation” video and sing along with that.
There is also a cool feature that will play only the background music (like karaoke!), so you can give a concert in your home for your family!
Please know these are completely optional - I just wanted to provide a fun musical outlet for everyone.
I miss everyone and can’t wait to be back at school making music together!
