PTA Color Run - Saturday Nov. 12th
What’s a Color Run? It Sounds Like Fun!
The Carlisle Elementary PTA Color Run is an un-timed jogathon where ‘runners’ (Carlisle students) are dusted in different colors at color stations around the lap course by their very own Carlisle teachers and parents! The COLOR is made of dyed cornstarch - all products are 100% natural and safe. The Color Run is all about a color crazy hour of Carlisle students running, walking, or skipping (if they wish) with friends while family supports them as they run laps!
Ok, I love It! When and Where Is The Color Run?
It is at Carlisle! Students will run a small loop on the school property, and they can run as many times around as they can! This is a Saturday event – Carlisle students will love to have their family members watch them run, and if siblings or parents want to join in—they can register too!! The date is set for Saturday, November 12th—check in as early as 9 am, and the run starts at 10 am. Put it on your calendar now!
How does it Work?
Carlisle students can find sponsors by asking their parents, family, friends, and community to pledge a flat dollar amount to help raise money! Pledge forms turned in by Wednesday November 2nd with a minimum of $25.00 in pledges, will receive 1 Color Run shirt. Siblings and Parents can also turn in pledge forms as well. Additional shirts can be purchased online thru Wednesday 11/2.

Take a Taste Tuesday
For the letter H we have deviated from the usual raw fruit and veggie taste. Instead today Mrs. Urcuyo’s class got to taste Hummus. The students were very excited that they were the class chosen to try Hummus. Hummus is made from mashed up garbanzo beans that are mixed with oil and spices to make different flavors. Hummus is a great low fat dip for veggies or a spread for bread or crackers. Garbanzo beans and beans of all kinds give you energy from healthy carbohydrates and best of all, unlike most vegetables, hummus and other beans also provide a substantial amount of protein. We hope your family will try some hummus this week.

Jasper High School presents The First Two Days @ Jasper
“Students want to know their teachers, they want their teachers to know them, and they want to know how much they care.” -Multiple Authors
A team from Jasper High School recently gave a presentation on their new "First Two Days" program. This program is based on two simple, well-researched ideas:
1. Students have the best chance of academic success when they feel that they are part of a community where they have the skills and resources to do the work, and to get help if they need it.
2. The first few days are critical for establishing that sense of community, set of expectations, and awareness of available resources.
This year, instead of leaping immediately into schoolwork, the staff at JHS spent the first two days of school doing exercises designed to help the students learn how to collaborate, establish trusting relationships with both teachers and other students, and discover the tools that will help them learn and grow.
Despite some initial concerns ("You want us to think about doing what during the first week of school?") the feedback from both students and teachers was very positive. Students developed a sense of belonging in both classes and on campus as a whole, and by day three, many students were energized and ready to start focusing on academic content. Teachers felt that the activites established good communities in their classes, and got the students engaged in necessary life skills, including collaboration, defending a side, critical thinking, and team building. The teachers will continue to develop activities to meet the needs of their classrooms.
The team from Jasper is already considering how to expand the program for next year, bringing it to other schools and possibly extending it to include the entire first week of school.
