Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 26th May 2017
Going for Gold
The Daily Mile
On Thursday we timed everyone to see how long it took them to do a mile, and at regular intervals will repeat the timing. Whilst we may see faster times, the real aim is to improve general fitness, which is also proven to have an impact on the children's physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing.
We are excited to announce that past pupil and Olympic gold medal winner Jack Laugher, will be presenting medals to all children who participate in the sponsored mile at the Friends' Summer Fair on Saturday 17th June. All sponsor money raised will go towards installing an all weather track across the far edge of the school field so we can continue our Daily Mile in the winter months.
Fun at the River
Our annual duck race started with a splash and continued at slow paddle down the river to the stepping stones, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the lovely sunny evening and festive atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the Friends' fundraising efforts. Mrs Powell was thrilled to be told that her duck had won and is looking forward to enjoying the Club Enclosure at Ripon Races. Thank you to the Racecourse for donating two tickets.
Exciting New Summer Menu

term time holidays
sports day - change of time
Please note that Sports day will be going ahead on June 15th. However the timings are as follows:
Nursery and Reception at 9.30am
Years 1-6 at 1.30pm
Parents are welcome to join us and cheer on the Tigers, Sharks and Dragons as they battle it out to be Summer Sports Champions.
Qualified Teaching Assistant Vacancies
As announced last week, we are delighted to announce that the Governing Body has given their full support to extending the Nursery day and childcare availability from September. Details of three staff vacancies can be found on our website by clicking here and on the NYCC careers site www.northyorks.gov.uk/Jobs-and-careers
In conjunction with the longer nursery day, we also intend to run a breakfast club and after school childcare for main school children. An advert for a post to work in school during the day and then lead the childcare club after school is now on the websites as above.
Reading at 100%
One lucky child who has read five times or more during the week (or 5 if the class achieves 100%!) is selected by raffle from every class to choose a book from our special collection to take home and keep (and read!). It's great to see so Reception improving this week, but particular congratulations to Year 4 at 100%.
Friends of Ripon Cathedral School
A huge thank you to everyone for supporting the Duck Race on Tuesday evening down at the river. It was a lovely event, lots of sunshine, splashing about in the river and two lucky winners for coming first and last!!
Thank you so much to families who are busy creating jolly jars and searching out tombola gifts for the summer fair. We know the children will enjoy uniform free day in return for your efforts!
