IT'S GREAT TO BE A FALCON!
Hello Frontier Falcons!
Wow, what a week! We have packed a lot into a few short days. We have been seeing more and more cases of Covid popping up in EPS and Oklahoma County, and I am sure you are aware of the status. Because of those increased levels of positive cases, and out of an abundance of caution and care for the safety of our children, the district’s decision to go to full remote learning was announced Friday to be continued until a minimum of November 30th. This is not an extension of Thanksgiving Break. Days we were to be here for blended learning for next week will be instructional days. There will be lessons on Canvas for both A and B students and teachers will be reaching out about Google Meets opportunities with your child/children. Please be patient with our teachers as they truly want to be with your children 5 days a week with the assurance that everyone is safe.
Group A Students Classwork Pickup:
Please plan to come by the school either Monday, Nov. 16th from 1-4 pm or Tuesday, Nov. 17th from 9:30 am-12 pm to pick up your student's classwork. This is a come and go, drive-thru event. More details can be found below in this newsletter.
Veterans Day Recognition:
I hope you enjoy our Veterans day salute and our Veterans Day parade videos below. We are truly humbled by the service of the men and women of the Armed Forces. Our freedoms are secured because of your sacrifices. THANK YOU!
Annual Bedlam Food Drive:
If you have already purchased items for our annual Bedlam Food Drive, you are welcome to drop them by our lobby M-F 8:30 am-3 pm. We will place these items in our NEW Frontier Food Pantry to support our fellow Falcons. More details can be found further down in this newsletter. Thank you for supporting Frontier!
IXL TOURNAMENT of CHAMPIONS:
Over the next two weeks, the homeroom who has answered the most IXL questions, on their levels, will receive a prize from the office staff! We are doing great at answering and mastering so many IXL questions and learning new skills. Keep up the great work, Falcons! We have to date answered 776,794 questions school-wide and have mastered 14,184 skills and are proficient in over 21,000 skills. Cross Timbers is the team to beat and Nov. 30th is the last day to compete! We’ve got this Falcons!
FREE Drive-thru Meals:
Drive-thru meals will still be available next week during remote learning! I encourage you to pick up meals from our cafeteria (north side of the building) from 10-10:30 am. Food is provided FREE from a federal grant for all children through 18 years old. If you have kids at different schools, you can pick up at one school. I hope that you are able to take advantage of this service!
Friends and Family Wall:
Don’t forget to send in your family pictures for our Friends and Family Wall! You can email these to your teachers and we will continue to update our wall.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving Break! Please stay safe and healthy!

AT HOME LEARNING FOCUS FROM DR. KANALY:
Building Learning Stamina
Our teachers are reporting more and more each year how students are having a tendency to give up or quit because they perceive something is too hard. One of the reasons we are working on questioning skills and critical thinking is to help build learning stamina in our students and to help create a sense of wonder and curiosity and more intentionally a love of learning. Often we are finding our students shutting down at the first sign of something being hard or challenging.
Some ways that you can help your child with stamina is to give them wait time and the expectation that they can succeed at the task and expect them to persevere through the task.
So much of success in life boils down to persistence. While “natural ability” is often touted as a gift that must be nurtured, students who have learned the art of persistence are able to work through challenges, deal with failure, and achieve their goals. But how can you help a child develop persistence?
Here are a few articles that address this issue and ways to support your children:
