Penngrove Press
February 1, 2023
Panther families,
Thank you for the commitment to our YouthTruth Family survey- I appreciate all your responses! We had an 80% family response rate!!! You'll be hearing from me regarding our findings in the coming months!
We know attendance has been tricky the past few years, to say the least. If your student is going to be out for illness, please be sure to report it to the school by email, voicemail or the absence reporting document on our website. This helps us immensely, plus we won't call you or contact you with a pesky truancy letter if absences are due to illness.
Does anyone have a connection to the property behind Penngrove School to the North? We have about 5 bouncy balls on their side of the fence and would love to have them either thrown back over, or get permission to go gather them up. Thanks!
Parents of students in grades 4-6: if your student is interested in joining our Coding Club, please sign up here! This will be on campus after school from 3:15-4:15, February 9- March 16!
Please note the intent to return form linked here and included below- let us know if you plan for your student(s) to return to Penngrove next year. We are already in the early stages of planning for 2023-2024!!!
Stay awkward, brave and kind!

Call for Classified Subs!
Over the past few weeks, our site has experienced an increase in staffing absences due to the rise in illnesses within our community. As you can imagine, when staff members are unexpectedly absent, we need to move members of our team around to ensure the most critical needs on campus are met. We are hoping to find some parents, family members, and community members to bridge the gap with our staffing shortages.
How can you help?
We are in need of classified substitutes particularly in the following positions:
- Crossing guard (M-F, 7:50-8:20 on Old Adobe Rd by the Redwood Grove)
Instructional assistants (working with students in a classroom setting, with students 1:1, in TK classrooms, special education etc.)
Office support (clerical, answering phones, attendance, secretarial duties)
Yard supervisors (facilitating play with students during lunch and recess, ensuring student safety, providing a nurturing play environment) Beginning after Spring Break- we are in need of a yard staff from 11:30-1:30!
If you are willing to substitute in any of the positions mentioned above, please email Ursula Perez Lopez at uperezlopez@petk12.org. Ursula and our Human Resources team will provide you with fingerprinting instructions and the district will even cover the cost of fingerprinting! After your fingerprints are clear, Ursula will work with you to complete your paperwork which takes about 20 minutes. Finally, you’ll become a fan favorite at school when you swoop in to save the day the next time someone calls in sick or needs to be absent.
2023-2024 Planning!
Hello, Penngrove Families! Can you believe we've made it through 100 days of school? That means we are over halfway through the school year... which also means it's time to plan for next year!
Please click here to access the Intent to Return form. With enrollment open and the next school year right around the corner, we are starting to think about placements for next year. Whether you plan to return to Penngrove or not, we're asking for you to complete this form no later than Wednesday, 2/15.
Please reach out to Mrs. Marcy at jmarcy@petk12.org or (707) 778-4755 if you have any questions.
PennStaff Spotlight!
Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
What is your favorite (non-electric) game to play? Tell me why!
Clothing Bin Update:
Thank you to everyone who helped fill up 8 bins of donated clothing last year. We were able to raise $1,400 for the Class of 2023! The program is on a pause until they make more room for donations in their warehouse, but we hope to bring them back ASAP. Please consider holding onto your clothing donations for when the bins make their return.
Parents Night Out Recap:
Thank you to the families who signed up for the Parents Night Out fundraiser last Friday night. We had 50 #PennPanthers spend an evening with yummy food, balloon games, crafts (sooo many perler beads), face painting and a flashlight scavenger hunt around campus. The dozen 6th grade group leaders did a wonderful job engaging with their guests. Special thanks to Mrs, Harp, Ms. J, Mrs. Newman and Mrs. Weaver for spending a Friday evening at this fun Class of 2023 fundraiser!
We are having our very first Garden Committee meeting! Please come and lend your ideas and support, we will discuss a Pollinator Habitat program I am bringing to campus, how to best implement our new grow towers as well as time for suggestions of things you would love to see happening in our garden program. This will be Monday February 6th at 3:15pm in the garden. Children are very welcome to come along and may participate or play in the garden while we meet.
I have an ongoing fundraiser here http://PenngroveGardenProgram.fpfundraising.com we will receive 50% of your purchase price if you are buying some spring bulbs for your garden. You can also check out my wish list here https://www.thingstogetme.com/376032a85350
