SLP Schools Online: Grades K-6
October 13, 2021 Newsletter

Greetings,
The first several weeks of school have gone very quickly. Learning advocates, your children’s teachers, have been sharing great news with me and others. We look forward to celebrating our good news and fun times with all of you also during conferences coming up.
Here are some updates and reminders for this week:
- Conferences: Parent/Teacher Conferences will occur in October. These conversations are an awesome opportunity for school and family to partner in your child’s learning experience. We appreciate all that we learn from you about your child. We hope that you find the conversations to be of equal value. If you haven’t made an appointment to meet with your child’s learning advocate, please reach out to them to do so.
- Fall Break: There is no school for SLP Online students during fall break, October 18-22. School resumes on Monday, October 25. There also will not be a newsletter next week. Staff will be learning together and connecting with many of you to discuss student progress.
- Picture Day: Picture Day for online students is November 1 at the District Services Center. The scheduling details for this event will be shared after fall break. Learning advocates will also share the details, as they are available, in their class newsletter.
- Attendance line: Please call the attendance line, 763-600-5209, to report student absences due to illness, appointments, and vacation.
Connection and support are necessary for our online school experience to be successful. Learning advocates have been working hard to create those connections and we need students to participate fully each day in the learning experiences. To be marked “present” for the day, students must engage in the work and have meaningful interactions with the learning experiences for the day. Please help support your child in engaging in the learning each day.
We’ve heard from many families with offers to help during this ongoing pandemic. You may be hearing about how many local businesses are short of staff. The same is true of our schools. We’d welcome your help in recruiting for critical positions such as paraprofessionals, substitute teachers, staff to help with COVID testing, and others. Of, if you are interested yourself, please consider applying.
Have a great break and please continue to reach out to your child’s learner advocate or to me with any questions or concerns. We will see you back on Monday, October 25!
Take care,
Kimberly Fehringer

Two seniors join school board for the 2021-22 year
Seniors Ellie Jeppson and Bella Sciara are this year's student representatives on the Spring Lake Park Schools school board. Each year, the board welcomes two student representatives from the high school’s student council to join their board meetings and update members on student life and the SLP experience.
This year, both student representatives come with long-time Spring Lake Park Schools experience. Their SLP journey began nearly 12 years ago in kindergarten at Northpoint Elementary. Since then, both have discovered their passions and interests. Learn more about Ellie and Bella.
First Panther Pride Sweepstakes a success
With 1,200 student submissions and 217 submissions, the first Panther Pride Sweepstakes was a success! Last week, 10 students and 10 staff representing each of our schools/programs were drawn from the pool of submissions. The students won a $50 Panther Store gift card and the opportunity to direct a $500 mini-grant to a project of their choice at their school. Staff won a $50 Panther Store gift card.
This event was a great opportunity for the community to engage with the Panther Foundation, learn more about the district and provide funds for our schools. Thanks to all who participated and congratulations to our winners!
