Bulldog Bulletin
New Britton Elementary - October 7, 2016
Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
Our students and teachers have been engaged in some exciting learning opportunities at New Britton. In kindergarten, students have been exploring and wondering more about math in the real world. Did you know how many shapes and numbers you can find all around you? First grade has been engaged in collecting and organizing data. Second grade recently finished a unit of study about different types of communities and many of them built models of the different types. Third grade writers have been taking small moments and adding voice through different strategies to help readers create a vivid picture in their minds. And fourth graders are finishing up a hands-on unit of study about How to Be a Scientist. The deep thinking, connecting, and transfer of knowledge has been exciting to see. As we wrap up this 9 week grading period and conduct conferences with families, its important to reflect upon the growth of each child. We are learning and growing DAILY! We appreciate you supporting your student and partnering with us each and every day.
Not only is New Britton celebrating a milestone this year with our 25th anniversary, but Indiana is also celebrating a big birthday. It is our bicentennial - wow, 200 years of being a state. New Britton is fortunate to be a small part of this celebration. The Torch Relay, a relay traveling county to county in Indiana, will be briefly stopping at New Britton on Thursday, October 13th at approximately 6:30pm. I would like to invite all families back to school if you can fit it into your schedule to witness this historic event. Please try to be here by 6:15 if you would like to cheer for the torch bearers. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Early Childhood Program
Applications for peers into our Early Childhood classrooms are being accepted now. Early Childhood in HSE creates an environment that affords all children the opportunity to develop friendships while becoming leaders and role models. Throughout the educational experience, children will learn about acceptance and diversity. Children enrolled in the four half day (M-TH) Early Childhood classrooms will experience a student centered preschool curriculum enriched with social skills and language skills along with academic activities. The skills and activities are linked to the Indiana State Standards for preschool which are precursor skills designed to promote kindergarten readiness. Children must be at least 3 years old and not kindergarten eligible. For information regarding how to enroll your child in this enriching learning opportunity, please stop by Brooks School Elementary for an application. If you have any questions about the peer group program, please contact the early childhood secretary, Beth Kiel, at 915-4250 or send an email to mailto:earlychildhoodcontact@hse.k12.in.us
