Message from the Principal π
As we enter our first full week of school in 2023, I hope that you have all had a great start to the new year. We are making our way through the month of January pretty quickly it seems! Vikings, be sure to continue putting in the effort needed to maintain good grades! 8th graders, remember the new deal regarding promotion that I emailed you about last week? Take advantage of that amazing opportunity and do the right thing this semester!!
This week is The Great Kindness Challenge Week! The power of kindness is underestimated. It is highly contagious and makes people feel good! What can you do every day to be kind? Click HERE to access a list of acts of kindness that you can do this week at school and at home. I challenge you to complete as many acts of kindness as you can! Anytime is a good time to spread kindness! π
Our first spirit week of the year is this week too!! π Check out the flyer below for details on the specific days. Participate to show your spirit and earn points for your advisory! Submit your photos HERE! We end the week with our Winter Sports Rally honoring our three soccer teams!!
I am excited to return to Music Mondays tomorrow! Remember, the advisory to be the 3rd caller with the correct artist name and song title wins donuts for the whole class! π© Will it be your advisory this week?
Take care,
Ms. Scott

SDSU/NIH COVID-19 Testing Update
As many of you are aware San Diego State University and Sweetwater District partnered to offer free COVID-19 testing opportunities to students, staff, and household members at all middle schools.
Effective Immediately our SDSU/NIH At-home Testing Program will start a new phase. Instead of expecting participants to test and report every week, we will be asking:
β’ Participant(s) to test if they become symptomatic (i.e., cough, runny nose, headache, fever or chills, sore throat, diarrhea).
β’ Participants will no longer receive incentives for registering or testing.
β’ Test and report as required by the CDC
The Communities Fighting COVID: Return to Schools Testing Program is part of a study that encourages regular COVID testing to keep our schools and families safe. Frequent testing in schools helps to detect infections and prevent transmission. This project is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
If interested in joining, registration can be done online, Consent form: English and Spanish. You may also attend your schoolβs distribution day(s), as coordinators will be able to assist and answer any questions regarding the consent form.
Please note that you may only pick-up test kits from the school your student is enrolled in.
Questions? Call 619-695-8140 9 am β 5 pm Monday β Friday or email Sweetwater_COVID_tests@sdsu.edu
