Water Distribution
Where does our water come from?
People can only drink 2.5% of the Earth's water and most of that water is stored in groundwater and glacieres. In fact, there is 30.1% of our freshwater in groundwater and 68.7% in glaciers so we only get about 1.2% of the 2.5%. We only get our water from lakes and rivers and swamps and marshes but we only get little bits of those.
Salt Water
There is 1% of water on Earth for humans, the rest of the 99% is saltwater. Of that freshwater only 1.2% is surface water which, is the only reachable water source for humans. The rest of the fresh water is locked up in ice caps and glaciers. Saltwater also is distributed in many ways including: oceanwater, groundwater, streams, etc.

Water Usage
How much water do we use each day?
The average american family uses more than 300 gallons of water each day. Water takes a big role in our community. Most people use water mainly indoors, for example in the 1 average shower wastes about 17 gallons of water. Another way water is wasted is when you're brushing or washing your hand every minute you have the tap on you waste 4 gallons of water. The amount of water we use in California for different purposes is shown in the pie graph below.
