Thesis Statement
Citizens should be allowed to rule based on knowing what they want and applies to their standers without a government controlling their thoughts or actions
"The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson and "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut
In “Harrison Bergeron” and “The Lottery”, the citizens should be allowed to rule both texts shows what one may think is the right way others disagree. Harrison rebelled and escaped prison to show the world it is not right to be detained from their natural talents and abilities. Mrs. Hutchison didn’t oppose to the idea that the Lottery was wrong until she was chosen to be killed, Mr. Summers and Old Man Warner believe that it is the right thing to do to control and keep the village at ease.
Quote, Analysis
Quote: “Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her "It isn't fair," she said” (Jackson 7)
Analysis: Jackson states that the citizens thought they had no choice but to participate in the lottery. But the citizens did have the choice because other towns around them had stopped doing the lottery , so the citizens know what they want and how to control the town. The citizens didn’t object to the lottery but the things there were ran more smoothly
Quote: “It was then that Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun. She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor” (Vonnegut 5).
Analysis: Vonnegut is creating the image of the government being so controlling that they would go to an extent and kill off anyone who crosses the line. The government doesn’t realize how unhappy their citizens are with all the rules, showing they don’t care and everything is one side. The citizens were unhappy the way things were and the government twisted their minds

Conclusion
- Looking towards the election I am afraid that the decisions of uneducated people will be the reason Donald Trump is in office destroying America. Deporting all Hispanics, Muslims, and "The Wall" will not solve the crime, poverty, and the issues of America at all, it may create more.
