Welcome, School Year!
SLRI Update - September 2016
Message from the President
Welcome back to school! Whether you started before Labor Day or this week, the school year is young and full of promise. Just as you are brimming with new ideas for your library, we have many ideas and initiatives for SLRI. The board met in August to come up with three goals to guide our work this year.
- Increase communications with members: Look for more discussions, toolkits, advocacy help, and instructional resources on the Member pages.
- Build partnerships: The Coalition of Library Advocates (COLA) supports school libraries, and RISTE is a natural partner for events and professional development. We also plan to reach out to local teacher training programs (RIC, Salve, etc.) about collaborating with school librarians.
- Advocate for equitable access: Can you imagine a Rhode Island where every school library has access to RILINK?
We have much work ahead of us. Would you like to help? The SLRI Board has two open member-at-large positions. The monthly commitment is a great way to dip your toes in and get involved in SLRI! Interested? Contact me at SLRI.Prez@gmail.com.
If you are looking to get involved, but can't commit to a meeting every month, please consider joining one of our standing committees: Advocacy, Awards, Communications, Conference, Member Relations or Programs.
Finally, save the date for our Annual Membership Meeting and author event featuring Cece Bell on Friday, October 14, at the Lincoln School in Providence.
Looking forward to a great year!
Sarah
