Friday Focus
Great teachers focus on expectations
What was your percentage?
Typically we see about 48-54 % of all parents during spring conferences. There were a lot of factors working against us last night. I am curious what your numbers were. There were quite a few of you that had more attend last night when compared to the fall conferences! Either way it was a great night to chat with the parents that did venture out!
Thanks for helping make it another successful conference night!
In the News
You may have already watched this news story. If you have not, take second to take a look. Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Olson are highlighted by Keloland news for their successful program here in Mitchell. They took on teen smoking and tobacco use, now they are going after the vaping issue full force. They have some creative campaigns going over at MHS!
Reaching Out
Mrs. Eide worked in conjunction with the DWU Education Department to reach out to a number of our ELL families in the community. Visitors of all ages enjoyed looking at the Dr. Seuss classics in another language
Hands on History
Students in Mrs. Mebius's World History course are studying practices in Ancient China. A pair of students was researching the carving and burning of animal bones. This is a portion of a cow skull they brought in to try to read for the class.
Shake it up!
Mrs. Winter's class enjoys a brief stretching break as part of their routine. As the winter starts to drag on, finding creative ways to shake out the wiggles helps everyone!
Work your magic!
There is a flat of buns, chips, water, and some meat left in the lounge. Help yourself to whatever is left. Make it disappear!
Some conversations that I had last night...
First off, I enjoy parent teacher conferences. It allows me time to casually chat with parents and catch up, listen to concerns that they have, and chat with teachers too. There was an overwhelmingly positive feel in the building last night, and it made the night go smoothly. Here are some things I heard from parents:
- "I have had four kids in this building and I am super impressed with the staff. My daughter could not have had a better experience here and I am thankful for everything the teachers have done for her."
- "There have been a few rough patches this year, but you guys (meaning all of you!) stuck with him and helped him pull through them. We couldn't be happier."
- "I enjoy coming to conferences here. The teachers are always friendly and really know the kids."
- "I have got to tell you, I absolutely love that there are staff at the doors in the morning greeting the kids! It makes it such a welcoming place. On top of that, the teachers in the halls chatting with kids during passing has really helped my daughter feel at home here."
There was a number of positive things said last night. There were the ones that I quick jotted down as I wanted to share them with each of you. We talk a lot about rapport, relationships, and what we can do to create buy in with the kids. It is obvious that you are all doing just that. Keep up the excellent work!
