What is astronomy?

Astronomy is the branch of physics that studies celestial bodies & the universe a a whole.

It is good for the study of the universe it also important for the potential benefits to humans. This also helps how stars shine may one day lead to improve or new energy source on earth.


1.IDENTIFY:The visible and non-visible parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.

2.COMPARE:refracting telescopes and reflecting telescopes.

3.EXPLAIN:How telescopes for non visible electromagnetic radiation differ from light telescopes.


Describe The Electromagnetic Spectrum

The electromagnet spectrum is all of the frequencies or wavelength of electromagnetic radiation. They all travel at the same speed of 300,000 km/s and they are all traveling in wavelengths. In the invisible side only a human eye can see visible light also the light radio waves, & X-rays are al examples of electric magnetic spectrum.

Reflecting & reflecting telescopes

A reflecting telescope is a telescope that uses a set of lenses to gather and focus light from distant objects.And a reflecting telescope is a telescope that uses a curved mirror to gather and focus light from distant objects.A refracting telescope is the bending of light by lenses is called refracting one problem with refracting telescopes is that the lenses focus from different colors of,light at different distances. Another problem with refracting telescope is that it is very difficult to make large lenses of the required strength.

Invisible light telescope

In the invisible light telescope scientist have developed telescopes that detect invisible radiation. There are also telescopes that detect gamma X-rays , infrared rays. One problem with using telescope is to detect invisible electromagnetic radiation. But the only way to study many forms of radiation is from space.

Space based telescopes

The space based telescopes ,the Hubble space telescopes in an example of a telescope that has been launched into space. Another example the ohandra x-rays obsotory make mirarcably clear image using x-rays from objects in space, the Compton rays is no longer in space anymore. The spitzer was launched in 2003 to detect infrared radiation. Finally the James Webb space telescope is scheduled to be launched in the year of 2011.
