Mr. Beltz's ELL Updates
What's New in ESL?
It's the Holiday Season
Change is happening everywhere. The weather is getting colder. The nights are getting darker. The ESL students at VO are shining even brighter. As we enter the holiday season, we will be discussing celebrations that take place around the world - even if we're just celebrating the changing seasons.
I have started decorating the room with winter themes - we have snowmen and polar bears on the shelves and snowflakes on the ceiling. I will be putting up a tree to recognize the many celebrations that take place in the United States and around the world. I encourage you to send something with your child to add to the tree that represents your customs and traditions. This could be a family photo, a picture from the internet or a magazine, or an ornament that can be hung from the tree. All ideas are welcome! Students will have opportunities to discuss the holiday traditions that are important to them. This is optional.
Leader In Me
Your child is continuing to learn and to grow using the 7 habits of the Leader In Me. The Leader In Me teaches children to unlock their full potential and discover leadership skills and happiness along the way. We regularly incorporate Leader In Me in our daily learning. This month we will begin using a chart to track our good habits in class, and we will keep binders to set goals and monitor our progress. Children learn best when they have goals and plans to achieve them. Our focus for this month will be habit #2: Begin With the End in Mind. Encourage your child to set goals at home and develop a plan for success. Look for more information on Leader In Me soon!
