Absences not needing a sub----Put them in Aesop

All staff who do not require a substitute and fall under our teacher group (instructional coaches, specialists, counselors, social workers, psychs, OT, PT, library media specialists, etc.) will start reporting their absences in AESOP starting Tuesday, November 24th. They will need to check "no sub needed." Essentially, we are moving back to a past practice.

The reason for this switch is to better have a handle on personnel numbers in each building, particularly due to the COVID situation. If these staff members are absent for any reason, they will follow the same protocol as teachers and report via AESOP, not Skyward. They will be able to choose COVID-related if that is the case. They should choose this even if they are still working from home. This will give us more accurate numbers related to staff absence from the building and the potential operational impact. As a reminder, COVID-related absences do not dock a sick bank.

Kelly Baylor is working on setting this up and any staff with AESOP technical questions can enlist her help.

Shifting to Virtual

Hello Everyone,

As we move to a virtual instructional model from 11/23 to 12/4 (return to in-person hybrid instruction on 12/7) we wanted to provide clarity on some logistical items for the next two weeks.

We will remain in the hybrid model while conducting virtual instruction. Please refer to the schedule below for live instruction via Zoom dates for Cohort A and Cohort B.

Instruction

We will follow our traditional bell schedule (51 minute classes). Students can only attend live zoom sessions on their synchronous instructional days. Zoom links should be posted on the homepage of your Canvas courses. Attendance should be marked “present” if a student logs in to the zoom. Tosa Connected and WVA students will continue to learn virtually according to their assigned schedule. Over the next two weeks please discuss and reinforce these Student Zoom Norms.

Staff Work Location

Teaching staff will have the option to work from home or to report to their building during this time. If you are working within the building, please keep your distance from your colleagues and do not meet in person for planning, department meetings or lunches. Additionally, if you choose to work in the building, you cannot bring your children in with you. All non-teaching staff will receive communication from their supervisors regarding work responsibilities.

Asynchronous Attendance

Per DPI guidelines we will still be required to track attendance on asynchronous days starting December 1st. On November 23rd and 24th, all 1st hour teachers should show this video to their classes, so students know how to track their attendance on the asynchronous days. On Tuesday, December 1st, please post this announcement on your Canvas course to remind your asynchronous students to take their attendance.

Students-please remember that this week you need to start checking in on Infinite Campus for all of your courses on each of your asynchronous learning days in order for your attendance to be taken. Click here to log into your Infinite Campus account. If you need a refresher of how to log your attendance on asynchronous learning days, please watch this video.

Exclusion List

While we are virtual, students on the exclusion list will Zoom in and parental permission will not be required.

Executive Functioning Lessons

As discussed during our staff meeting Tuesday we will be engaging in mini-lessons about executive functioning skills. Additional information will be provided in the coming week. However, please plan for a 5-10 minute discussion each hour on Tuesday, December 1st and Thursday December 3rd.

Administrator Contact

If you have any questions or concerns during our two virtual weeks please reach out to any of the admin.

Nick - 414-460-6806 (cell) or 414-773-2010 (office)

Betsy - 414-640-3035 (cell) or 414-773-2011 (office)

Jordan - 414-719-0113 (cell) or 414-773-2012 (office)

Clubs and Athletics

The decision to move school to a virtual format for the next two weeks is a proactive measure and ensures the current COVID quaratinees and cases expire. Clubs, athletics and other activities can continue as planned during this two week period. Coaches and advisors will communicate about practices, games and scheduled events.

Thank you,

Nick, Betsy and Jordan

Tips and Tricks for Virtual Success

  • Review the Virtual Guidelines for further resources and information

  • Students do not need to be on camera for all of their synchronous lessons. Put students into breakout rooms, have them work independently, and then bring them back together.

  • When delivering direct instruction, remember to keep it in small chunks

Running Exclusion List Report

A report has been created to indicate which of your students are on the exclusion list, their return date, their initial cohort (A or B), and which class period and course they are in. It is organized by class period, with any students who are on the exclusion list from your 1st period class listed first. If you do not see a return date for a student, that means that their return date has not yet been determined. As soon as the nurses determine the student’s return date, that will be updated in Infinite Campus and will automatically be updated the next time you run the report.

Here is a video to show you how to access the report.

We are working with the district to get a flag added to Infinite Campus indicating if a student has permission to Zoom into class. Once this information gets added, it will be added to the exclusion report that you run.

Jordan and Betsy will continue to send emails with the student’s model of instruction choice. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve this process. If you have questions about the report, please let Betsy know.

Equity Coach's Corner---Lesson Plan Options and Digital Whiteboards

Happy Thanksgiving week. In the midst of this crazy year, I am feeling particularly grateful for my family, my health and for you all here at Tosa.

I had a request from a teacher to see some lesson plans in the different models - hybrid, virtual, async, etc. Although this is far from perfect, I created these examples just to try to show how I would go about planning in the different scenarios. Feel free to take a look if you want to see more examples since our PD on Wednesday.

I also wanted to share a cool new tool that Mr. Hughes shared this week. https://whiteboard.fi/ is a virtual white board site to replace using individual white boards in class (germs) or to use in the virtual setting. Here is a video if you are interested in learning more.

Library Ledger--Virtual Learning tech tips for students

If students report any issues with Google suite, Canvas or Zoom, please remind them to POWER off and then relog in. Sometimes their devices just need to be updated.

Also they really need to make sure they aren’t logged in on their chromebooks to a personal email.

When students are using library resources from home, they will sometimes be asked to authenticate. Please let them know this info. If they reach out with problems.

To access databases at home:

***If EBSCO/Badgerlink asks for a Library Barcode it is wsd12345

All other databases if prompted the login info is:

username tosaeast password library

They can always email me and I am pretty quick to respond.

From the Tosa Health Department: Holiday Guidance

The Wauwatosa Health Department and the WI Department of Health Services (DHS) recommend that you avoid gatherings with people you do not live with. The holidays are usually a time to come together with family and friends, but staying home and celebrating with those in your household is the best way to stop the spread of COVID-19. Keep your family and friends safe and healthy by staying home and avoiding travel. The DHS website has additional guidance for the holidays, including alternative ways to celebrate more safely.

Please note that transitions between models of instruction will still take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, even though the District has shifted to virtual instruction. If you did not receive placement information and believe that you should have, or if you have any questions, please contact your building principal directly.

Asynchronous Attendance

Starting on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, attendance will be taken for asynchronous (independent learning) days using Infinite Campus. Elementary (K-5) students will be marked as present if they (or their approved IC adults) check-in using Infinite Campus ONCE during each week. If you do not wish to change your secondary student’s model of instruction for the second semester, no action is needed. Your student will remain in their current model of instruction unless you indicate otherwise. You must access the portal to change your student’s model of instruction. Please be sure you can log in to your Infinite Campus parent portal now so you’re fully prepared on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
