Confucius or Confucianism
Confucianism started out when a man named Confucius started teaching his ideas. He believed it would give or bring harmony and peace to China. The real or central idea Confucianism is DUTY. Duty is when a person places the needs of their family or community first. For example, A parents duty is to love their children, and the childrens' to respect their parents. Husbands should love and support their wives when wives love and obey them back. Many people believed that Confucius was a wonderful teacher. However he died in 476 B.C, but Confucianism continued to help the Chinese government until the early A.D 1900'S. Confucianism represents the golden rule of ''Do to others what you want them to do to you''.
Daoism
A root word of Daoism is Dao which means path but most people translate it as ''The Way''. Daoism basically teaches people how to live a successful life. They believed people should not have worldy desires and just live a very simple life. They also should turn to nature and the Dao . If they did this they would live a happy life. Some people believe that the two philosophies, Daoism and Confucianism supported each other.
Legalism
This philosophy supports the importance of laws. A nickname for it is the ''School of Laws''. A man named Hanfeizi sparked Legalism in the 200 B.C'S. He believed that humans were naturally evil. He believed strict laws and punishments were needed to keep people in line. Lots of aristocrats supported legalism because there was a lot of force in it. It even had very cruel punishments for the smallest crime you could commit! Legalism had no rules that required the king to consider the needs of his people. Legalism is the most cruel philosophy.
