Unit 13
Energizers (5 min)
I was walking down the street:
Use this energizer to identify shapes in the world around us that have the shape of three-dimensional shapes.
Ex. I was walking down the street and I hear Christy say it had the shape of a cone, what could she have been talking about?
Opening: Three-Dimensional Shapes
Use the song/video below to play a game with three-dimensional shapes (you can include two-dimensional shapes as well.)
Optional Unit 13 Activities
Building a Structure
Have the students use three dimensional shapes to build their own versions of real structures or create their own structure. Students can use the three-dimensional shapes to create their own new structure within their community like a new school, bridge, or playground. Or you can print out real photos of the White House, the Capital Building, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, or structures around the world; London Bridge, The Great Wall of China, Stonehenge, Macchu Picchu, etc.
Students can take a picture and present their structure to the class as a warm, indicating how many of each three-dimnsional shape that they used. Also include a writing component with the assignment where the students give their structure a name and the purpose of the structure.
Three-D Solids Mystery Bag
Using a solid paper lunch bag, place a geo-solid inside the bag.
On the outside of the bag, give some clues as to what shape might be in the bag. Example: I have 6 sides. I have 12 edges. My faces are squares. What solid am I?
As students discover what solids are in each bag, they will record information about the attributes of the solids on a recording sheet or in their math journals.
(This could be a table group activity, small group/teacher table, or a station.)
Three-Dimensional Shapes with Nearpod
Students will also identify three-dimensional solids, including spheres, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms (including cubes), and triangular prisms, and describe their attributes using formal geometric language. (1.6E)

Fluency:
- This is a great opportunity to use any of the activities listed in the previous content previews that your students need additional practice with.
- finding numbers on the beaded number line and the open number line.
- Salute with two cards (one more, one less than your number)
- Rolling dice (double, sum to 10, ten more, roll 2 and build a two digit number)
- Draw a card, build a number with manipulatives (place value discs, base ten blocks, beaded number lines), draw, and write the number.
Closing:
- Class Share with predictable chart
- Class Journal
- Personal journal
- Partner talks
- Self assessment
