Res Weekly Update #5
The Way to Stay in Touch with All Things Res: 10/15 - 10/26
Principals Corner
This week, I visited the students on Kairos and gave a talk on the Results of God's friendship. It was in this talk that I came to more fully understand something that I often say (in Kairos talks and in other presentations): It is not just about the content. Students have to come to know and love God as a result of their time with us.....If they earn a 4 on the AP calc test, state title in Volleyball, Medal of Excellence in Science and 100 hours of service but do not understand that God loves them and that He has a will for them; what is the point?
We know that Catholic schools have a dual-mission: academic excellence and spiritual formation. We also know that teachers are PIVOTAL to that mission. You are the people that have the most direct contact with our students. They come to know and love Jesus, understand Truth and live Charity via your example, disposition, and manifestation of the Gospel.
How can we support one another in in this mission? What can we do to hold ourselves accountable to living that Gospel message, the invitation of Love and Mercy? I argue it is a mixture of content and culture. Content (the knowledge and skills taught and acquired in classrooms) interacts with culture (the prayers, symbols, interpersonal interactions, liturgical life, commitment to service) to provide the school an authentic faith community.
Here are a few of the structures that we have in place: UbD, Curriculum Maps and Alignment, Danielson Framework, Res U, Mass and other liturgies, Service Integration program, STREAM programming, student clubs and activities.....What are we missing? What more do we need?

Faculty Sign-In Sheet & Weekly Grades
The faculty sign-in sheet is now in the Faculty Lounge hanging up on the bulletin board at the end of the lockers. All faculty need to sign-in each day. Thank you!
Weekly Grades
Weekly grade reports are run on Friday morning each week. Teachers are required to update grades weekly and they need to be updated by Thursday evening (midnight) for the Friday morning report. We ask that teachers please stay out of their gradebooks from 9:45 - noon on Fridays so that an accurate report can be printed. If you have any questions concerning SDS or grade submission, please contact Joe Lascon.

Instruction & Technology Updates
As we begin the Collaborative Observation process, we continue to explore the different sub-domains of Domain 3 of the Danielson Framework.
Danielson 3C: Engaging Students in Learning with Real World Connections
Students are different today. We no longer need to prepare them for a job in industrial times. Today, we need to equip students with 21st Century skills so they can be successful in a rapidly changing world. Domain 3C asks us to take time to consider the paradigm shift that is happening today and the need to make learning relevant. Real world connections will help your students apply what they are learning and make learning more meaningful.
As with the previous two newsletter, feel free to take some time to review materials on 3C that may provide an in-depth understanding of the domain.
Curriculum and Academics!
Academics
- ALL AP Teachers - if you have not already uploaded your syllabus for the course audit, please make sure to do so by the end of the school day Monday, October 15. If you are a new AP teacher, you will have to go into the system and set up an account. Your questions, may be directed to Dr. Vallone; Mrs. Maluchnik is also very familiar with the process and has graciously volunteered to give assistance. Please do not assume your syllabus was uploaded at the end of last year unless you uploaded it yourself; go to AP Central and verify that it is there.
- AP Teachers: Look for an email highlighting AP Professional Development from Dr. Vallone. These sessions are listed on AP central and "give educators the opportunity to received subject-specific support...to strengthen their AP courses" (citing from AP Central.com). Some of them have passed; however, there are still several available dates open for your consideration.
- D/F list - In order to facilitate several programs e.g. athletic, cheer, and Rankin, weekly grades MUST be submitted by 9:00 a.m. every Friday. Once your weekly grades are entered, please do not enter additional grades for 24 hours. We encourage you to look carefully at who is on the list, and touch base with those students. You may want to do an informal assessment to determine the areas with which the student is struggling. Our goal is that fewer and fewer students will appear---on the list!
- RtI and Rankin Program If you have students who are in the RtI or Rankin program, be certain to provide the accommodations required. Additionally, take care to complete your RtI forms in a timely manner, so student services can attend to the specific needs of the student.
- National Honor Society Tutors National Honor Society tutors are now available. Thanks to Amy Roberts and Meredith Rogers for getting this up and running. If you have questions as to how to request a tutor, they will have answers for you.
Have a good weekend!
