I grew up eating very traditional, Middle Eastern foods—a mix of Egyptian and Lebanese cuisine with some burgers, pizzas and Doritos thrown in. My mother was and still is, a fantastic cook. I NEVER gave a thought to what I was putting in my mouth—EVER.

Fast forward many, many years and now I'm a health coach. How I eat now rarely resembles those foods I grew up with.

When people asked me—what do you eat? I sometimes shied away from telling them the whole truth (most people are very emotionally attached and protective of their food) out of worry that I might offend or scare them off, or quite simply, come across as a weirdo.

But, by assuming this, I never gave them the chance to consider what it would be like to discover a new way of eating, and ultimately, a new way of life.

Eventually, I learned that as a wellness professional, in order to move/wake up/shake up this kind of energy in people, I needed to GIVE OUT that energy first—regardless of the consequences. And so I talked about clean eating, and talked about it, and wrote about it—unabashedly.

And now — when I talk freely about how I eat, and more importantly, WHY, I eat the way I do, and the person in front of me reciprocates, that exchange of positive energy is fantastic.

It doesn’t matter how you eat now, it doesn’t matter how you ate growing up. What matters most is what and how you WILL eat from today onwards.

When I first became aware of the effects of the foods I ate (and didn’t eat) on my physical and mental well being, it was nothing short of a revelation.

The power to change my habits, rethink my traditions, and regularly deal with cynism and criticism came from deep within me.

I had to dig deep to rid myself of all self-doubt and backtracking.

Today, I do what I love everyday: Spread the message of clean eating, food as medicine and, more significantly, help people use food as a platform to change their lives.


It all started with a decision: “I’m going to give this detoxing thing a try.”
