Announcements and Updates! February 20, 2019
Please make note of the following announcements and updates!
The Proctor Field Sinkhole
Currently, our Facilities Department is in the process of finalizing the approval of a contractor based on the scope of work as indicated by the County. At this point the District cannot commence repairs until the United States Geological Service (USGS) completes its assessment. We thank you for your patience as we do our best to complete the construction on an accelerated timeline. A recent safety assessment by the USGS was just completed Wednesday, February 21st, which deemed the play structure, and black top playground safe for students and teachers, allowing us to open it up again for school use, though the field will remain closed.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.
Crossing Guard Update!
Therefore, we still have a need for parent volunteers for one last week. We are so thankful to the parent volunteers; Sheila Warebase, Norelle Fussell, Peter Rosen, Scott Troyer, Ebony Omelagah, Dianna Allen, and Jessica Ballard for stepping up to help us during this transitional time while Judy has been out. Our staff and community thank you!
If you are able to volunteer this week, please sign-up on the Google Doc attached: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P8P5Y9OdqTk3nDyl6GpKm9udJKZUFx-VgWEGKC88N2E/edit

Proctor Elementary School
Next Week it Starts! Get Walking and Rolling!
We are excited to announce that Proctor Elementary will be participating in the 2019 Golden Sneaker Contest, which is a part of the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program. The contest is happening from February 25 to March 8, and it encourages parents and students to reduce car trips by using active and shared transportation options such as:
Walking
Biking
Skateboarding, using a scooter, or any other human-powered wheels
Riding the school bus
Using public transit such as AC Transit or BART
Carpooling with other families
The Golden Sneaker Contest offers a chance for every student to participate. If you live too far fromschool to walk or roll, you can:
Park a few blocks away and walk
Meet up with friends who live close to school and walk or roll as a group
Start a carpool
Take the school bus or public transit to school
As a part of the contest, your child and their classmates will track how they get to school each day. One point will be given for each active or shared trip to school; no points will be given for arriving by car with only family members. At the end of the two-week contest period, the class with the most points will be awarded a Golden Sneaker Trophy and will celebrate their efforts with a party.
The Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools Program is a comprehensive, proven approach to getting more kids walking and biking safely to school. The program is funded by the Alameda County Transportation Commission. For more information, visit alamedacountysr2s.org.
We encourage you and your child to participate in this contest. If you have any questions, please contact the school. Have fun walking, rolling, and sharing your ride!
Incentive prizes will be awarded the K-2, and 3-5 class with the most participants.
