Fall Musical Auditions

September 1

Jungle Book Auditions on September 1st!!

Auditions for TPCA's fall musical, "The Jungle Book" will be held on Tuesday, September 1!!

Auditions are open to ALL TPCA students in grades 5-12. This is a large scale production which can support a cast of 50-70 students. Students involved in athletics or other extra-curricular activities can audition and be part of this production too! Rehearsals will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM, after most athletic events and practices. See the schedule HERE.

Auditions will be on Tuesday, September 1 at TPCA in the JK Stevens Commons. You must sign your child up for a specific time to audition that evening by clicking HERE.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your audition time to check in. Plan on at least an hour for the audition process.

Callbacks will be on Wednesday, September 2. Those who are requested for a callback will be notified. If you are not asked to return for a callback, that does NOT mean you have not been selected for a role in the production.

Each student who auditions will be asked to perform a prepared 1 minute audition song OR monologue of the student's own choosing.

The Song

  • Prepare 16-32 bars/measures from a Broadway musical (1 minute).
  • Choose a song in your vocal range.
  • Do not choose a pop song. Pop music is a different style and does not evoke the same tone as musicals.
  • Do not plan to sing a cappella – be sure to bring your accompaniment CD or iPod, etc.
  • Practice! Practice! Practice! Be memorized and have fun!

The Monologue

  • Prepare and memorize a comedic or light-hearted monologue (up to one minute).
  • Do not hold back in your delivery; this isn’t the time to feel self-conscious. Be big!
  • Project! Be loud enough to be heard.
  • If your monologue calls for movement, feel free to use the space to your advantage.
  • Ask for a chair if you need one.
  • Practice! Practice! Practice! Be memorized and have fun!

Each auditioner will only have the one minute time allotment, so please plan accordingly. Allow at least an hour for the audition process, which includes a dance portion. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes to dance in.

Audition Tips

1. Don't be afraid of the directing team. Lots of kids get nervous because the directors are staring at them. Remember, the directors WANT you to succeed. They're all great people who love kids and are excited to share their love of theater with you. They're focusing on what you do the best, not your shortcomings or mistakes.

2. Parents: Stay calm. Your kids feed off your nervousness more than you realize.

3. Keep a smile on your face and act confident, even if you make a mistake. Keep a "the show must go on" attitude. The directors will like that you're able to keep going. If you REALLY get confused during your audition (which doesn't happen very often), just ask to start over. It's okay.

4. Arrive Early. It's better if you don't feel rushed. AND--you can watch the group audition ahead of you so you'll be familiar with how things work.

5. Don't Sweat Your Head Shot. Don't have a great head shot? Don't worry. Bring us a pic that you just snapped on your phone or one from your last birthday. We just need to look at it and say, "Oh yes. I remember that amazing kid!" We won't judge you on whether or not you have a professional head shot
