Clemens Hosts Inaugural GeekCon
The inaugural GeekCon took place at Samuel Clemens on March 23rd. The event featured artists, gaming, tabletop, anime, and cosplay. This event was funded by an Innovative Teaching Grant from the SCUC ISD Education Foundation applied for and received by Clemens science teacher Joseph Menchey and Corbett Junior High teacher Marco Ricondo to benefit the students of the Samuel Clemens community.
Prom: The Roaring 20s
The Class of 2020 presents the 2019 prom with a theme of The Roaring 20s. Tickets on sale exclusively through MySchoolBucks. Project LIT Community
Clemens’s Project LIT Community held a meeting on March 19th to discuss Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone. This first foray proved to be successful, with a second novel already underway: Tiffany D. Jackson’s Allegedly. See or contact Ms. Merriner for additional information.
One Act Play
Buffalo Theatre’s one act play The Revolutionists advanced out of Zone ahead of Spring Break and competed at District on March 23rd. Although the troupe did not advance out of District, Clemens did host the Bi-District competition at the new Events Center. There is SO much to be proud of for students involved with the production. A final performance of The Revolutionists will be given Saturday, April 13th, for the SCUC Fine Arts Festival at the Steele High School auditorium at 8:00 pm.
Concert & Sight Reading Competition
The new Events Center is already playing host to a number of events, including a UIL Concert & Sight Reading competition for orchestra on March 7th. The Buff Philharmonic & Chamber orchestras each showcased their talents, performing to great reception and winning UIL Sweepstakes.

Student Safety Initiative Implemented with Anonymous Online Reporting System
Upon return from Spring Break, Samuel Clemens and SCUCISD implemented an anonymous reporting program, allowing students and parents to make anonymous reports about concerns of safety or student wellness. The program is student safety-focused, as opposed to crime-focused; it is a tool for alerting caring adults about students who need help—not snitching. The system—dubbed P3—is part of the school’s and the District’s continuous efforts to increase campus and student safety, providing students with a safe, completely anonymous outlet to share concerns. Additional information on the P3 system can be found through the SCUCISD Counseling website at https://www.scuc.txed.net/Page/326.

Hannah Lopez and Lucas Davis (pictured above) were two Clemens' students who were chosen to participate out of approximately 10,000 applicants. These dynamic leaders wrote essays about having hope of a better future and world. Both "Disney Dreamers" were able to discover new career opportunities, learn leadership skills, and participated in workshops that encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams.
