Lowell Lantern
Week of December 17-December 21, 2018
WE ARE LOWELL
Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Lowell Parents,
As some of you may have heard, we have changed our testing dates for the NWEA Assessment Window for Elementary Schools. We will administer the Reading and Math Assessment for NWEA when we return from winter break. The testing dates will be from January 8 - January 18, 2019. Student reports will be sent home at the conclusion of testing.
As a reminder, student report cards will be distributed after winter break as well. Look for report cards to go home on Friday, January 11, 2019.
During the 2017-2018 Legislative Session, State Lawmakers passed Senate Bill 355 which required all public schools to provide age-appropriate research and evidence-based instruction on child abuse education and policies to students in kindergarten through grade twelve.
On December 18, your child will be presented the Think First, Stay Safe child personal safety program. Think First, Stay Safe teaches students skills to help them stay safe. Presentations will be given by the Indiana University School of Social Work, Marion County Department of Child Services, and Warren staff and administration. Our learners will be taught the importance of treating one another with kindness and respect. They will also learn about personal boundaries and their right to have their boundaries respected by others.
The programs interactive lessons help children differentiate between healthy and unhealthy behaviors. The program gives students regular reminders that trusted adults are available to help with their safety and are available to talk at any time. Letters with information regarding this program are included in this newsletter.
Next week is our last week before winter break. School is in session every day next week. Our last day before winter break is Friday, December 21. It is a full day of school for students. We will be having our CORE Celebration during the day on Friday. Students will be able to cash in their corebucks for fun and games. We are in need of parent volunteers for this event. A volunteer sign-up sheet went home with students yesterday. If you are available to help out, please complete the form and return to school with your child. Thank you, in advance, for your support!
Have a great weekend!
