What's Happening?
Math
If you feel your student is struggling on math concepts, or you wish for them to have extra practice, have them get on Prodigy. Log-in username and passwords were sent out last week to each student. If you are not familiar with Prodigy, it is an interactive game that most students enjoy to play that helps students practice math concepts! Click here to go to the website.
DO NOT FORGET - Students should be getting on Reflex Math at least 3 times a week until they achieve 100 percent fluency. Once they reach 100 percent fluency, they only have to get on once a week. Click here to go to the website.
ELA
We are wrapping up first quarter and have been super busy reading and writing in ELA. Students just got September rubrics for their reader's notebooks this week and those should be coming home. This can allow you to see how well they are keeping up with their work in class. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to ask.
We are still working on making inferences, and will be testing over inferences next Friday. We are currently working on accurately quoting text when making an inference as well, and students will need to be able to do this on the test as well.
In writing students are working on writing a personal narrative. These will be finished soon, and you will receive information from me next week about a PUBLISHING PARTY!!!
Science
We concluded out scientific method unit last week with a Mentos experiment. Students answered the following question: how does the amount of Mentos placed in a soda bottle affect the amount of liquid that is left over after the eruption. Check out the pictures below from this amazing experiment!
- Define the problem.
- Generate concepts
- Develop a solution.
- Conduct and test prototype.
- Evaluate solution.
- Present solution.
Students have really enjoyed working through the steps to solve real-world problems. So far students completed a robot challenge and are currently working on building a paper chair that can hold a stuffed animal.
