Trexler Family Bulldog Bulletin
June 1, 2020 | EDITION 6 (ESPAÑOL ABAJO)
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Families,
This past week the news reel has been filled with a range of events that bring a range of emotions to the surface for many of us. It really takes all of us through our actions and words to process all that is going on around us and to bring change for the better. For better or worse the words spoken, decisions made, opinions formed, and policies endorsed accumulate to create the society we have today. We all play a role in the society we have today so when we believe that community, learning, and dialogue are essential to the collective growth mindset that we need for a positive transformation of our society we each experience personal growth. As educators and parents we have the power and responsibility to lay the foundations necessary to create a more just and equitable society for our students. Education and knowledge are vehicles for social change. In order to move towards outcomes that are positive and restorative for all impacted we need to engage ourselves by doing the following:
1. Read and learn about current and historical events.
2. Listen and be present with others facing adversity and inequalities.
3. Avoid Making the Conversation About You. Ask yourself what you can do to change the narrative and amplify the message that needs to be sent on behalf of someone else.
4. Connect with, find, or build a group of people for accountability. Make sure you are staying accountable to people facing adversity and inequalities.
5. Use Your Power and Take Action Peacefully. If you see or know of inequalities, speak up and do something about it peacefully and lovingly.
I would like to close with an excerpt from The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.
"The name given to that one dramatic moment in an epidemic when everything can change all at once is the Tipping Point...The point to all this is to answer two simple questions that lie at the heart of what we would all like to accomplish as educators, parents, marketers, business people, and policymakers. Why is it that some ideas or behaviors or products start epidemics and others don’t? And what can we do to deliberately start and control positive epidemics of our own?”

#Alone Together
Right now, millions of us are doing our part by keeping our distance and staying home. Just because we're serious about stopping the spread of the virus doesn't mean we have to face each day alone — we're in this together.

Census 2020
The 2020 Census is here! Will the Allentown community be fully counted? The Census is important to us all because it will determine how more than $800 billion in federal government dollars will be spent each year in our communities. Being counted in the census means $2,049 per person that comes back to Allentown every year for 10 years. These dollars will affect schools, roads, drinking water, housing, healthcare, fair political representation, and jobs.

BOLETÍN DE BULLDOG DE LA FAMILIA TREXLER
RINCÓN DE LA DIRECTORA
Queridas familias,
