What Does it Mean to be Literate as a SCIENTIST?
On December 1, PreK-12 teachers engaged in literacy learning by conducting a standards trace of the Informational Text English Language Arts (ELA) Standards for MN. Teachers participated in meaningful discussions about what it means to be "literate" as a student in 833, college student, historian, mathematician, scientist or employee. These discussions helped us re-examine the why behind this work. Being grounded in the why- groups continued to explore ideas about academic vocabulary, text dependent questions and close reading all working to build towards independence. In preparing for "Close Reading in 833" at the beginning of February teacher teams are designing close reading lesson exemplars to share and try out with all students during the week.
